History Stories for Children Question

Post by happy@home » Mon May 26, 2008 9:35 am

I have the 2nd Edition of History Stories for Children (HSFC).

I have downloaded the Alt. Sch. but have come across a few questions.

In my LHFHG manual on Unit 31 - Day 1 the Reading About History block uses the History for Little Pilgrims resource which is a story about Noah Webster. It doesn't have the HSFC resource listed. However, on the Alt. Sch. it lists a story from pg. 168-169 which is the story "The Boy and The Flag".

In my LHFHG manual on Unit 31 - Day 2 the Reading About History block uses the History for Little Pilgrims resource which is a story about George Washington Carver. It doesn't have the HSFC resource listed. However, on the Alt. Sch. it lists a story from pg. 111-112 which is the story "A Big Bell".

In my LHFHG manual on Unit 32 - Day 5 the Reading About History block uses the History for Little Pilgrims resource which is talking about the US flag and our motto, etc. It lists the HSFC resource pages 245-246. I believe the story "The Boy and The Flag" might go here. :D :D

(Side-note: the 2nd Edition of HSFC only has 196 pages :? is there a lot missing from this edition?) :?

In my LHFHG manual on Unit 33 - Day 1 the Reading About History block uses the History for Little Pilgrims resource which is talking about Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. It lists the HSFC resource pages 31-33. I believe the story "A Big Bell" might go here. :D

I am pretty sure I have answered my own questions, but I am going to post this anyway for anyone else that might run across this as well. :) :)

I have enjoyed looking through my LHFHG manual and the resources that go with it.
:D

AWESOME JOB, CARRIE!!!

I know that my kids are going to love LHFHG!

I have the old version, so I looked it up, you are correct
that "The Boy and the Flag" goes with Unit 32-Day 5
and "A Big Bell" goes with Unit 33-Day 1.

Looks like the new edition has put the stories in a more chronilogical order. If i didn't already have the old version, I'd much prefer getting the new one. The stories are all jumbled up in mine.

When i asked about the size of the book this is what Carrie had to say:

Basically the font is smaller.

Now I have looked over the sample pages at amazon (I believe) and compared them to the older book. I MUCH prefer the wording in the newer book. It seems that they sorta filled in the smaller details where they were not quite as thorough as in the first book. It is nothing really important, but I like it better.

Hmmm....this makes me wonder if I should get the new version. I have the old version too. Has anyone had the old version and opted to get the new one anyway?

The newer version only has 196 pages. :o
There are 69 stories.

At the end of each story there are vocabulary words with definitions and comprehension questions.

Is that about the same as the older version?

Thanks!! :D :D

The old version I have which is copyright 1991 has 249 pages and 62 stories. It doesn't have any comprehension questions or vocabulary at the end of the story

I think you just about sealed my decision to get the new version if I have the money!! The only reason I have the old one is cuz it came with a Lil Hearts set I bought used.

Oh ladies,

Somehow in my writing befuddled mind, I lost this post and didn't get back to it. I'm so glad that you've all chimed in to get the answer here. Thanks a million! By the way, I do like the new "History Stories" formatting and order better too! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
