Geography Guide for 8th?

Post by Sue G in PA » Thu Apr 18, 2013 10:59 pm

I'm up late...mapping out our long term plans (though I know they will likely be scrapped b/c things change so quickly around here!). LOL! Next year...*sniff, sniff*.. will be the first year in several years that I will not be using HOD. We are involved in a co-op that will be using another American History program and I just can't even imagine trying to do that AND a HOD Guide. Sigh. My 7th grader will be missing out on MtMM (though I secretly think he might be welcoming the break from the workload in HOD). Anyway...I am looking ahead to 2014/15. My 3 oldest boys will be in 11th, 9th and 8th and I was hoping to combine them all in the Geography Guide. It would be a perfect fit for the 11th and 9th grader. The 8th grader is not a strong student generally, but is a strong reader (and a lot can change/improve in a year) and I think he would LOVE the Geography/Art portion of the Guide. Could he do this? He would be more of a "tag along", doing only the Geography, Bible and possibly the world religions part. He would do his own English, Science and Math. As I said, this could all change depending on what our co-op plans, but for right now...this is MY plan! Think it would work? Thanks!

I plan to put my 8th, 9th and 12th graders in the geography guide in 2015. The youngers do the same English, but otherwise these three have always had separate math, and the older girl has had her own English and reading as well. It works for us. I will say that the youngest of these three is pretty academic, but he can be a little lazy. The challenge has actually been good for him in this respect. I have combined these three for many years. They are doing MTMM in the fall. The next year they will split for one year as I need the oldest to do the world history guide for graduation credits, and then they will come back together again in 2015 for the geography guide and then the two boys can just continue together through graduation.

Thanks, Melissa. I could wait a year (2015) and do Geography when the boys are in 12th, 10th and 9th, giving my younger boy another year to mature. However, if my plans work out, they will all do Geography in 2014/15 and then do MFW WHL in 2015/16. The youngest could def. not do MFW WHL for 8th...def not. Lol. But he "might" be able to handle it in 9th. Of course, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Carrie has the World History Guide out by then so they can keep using HOD. ;) That would make me so happy. :) I worry only b/c my younger boy is slow to mature academically. Very bright, but lazy and his writing at this moment is severely lacking. I guess I can just see how it goes. Thanks!
