Hi! We are doing Beyond with my son for 1st grade this year. His handwriting is not great, and I know that some of that is just normal for boys I don't feel like he is ready to start cursive writing next year in Bigger. I think that he would benefit from another year of copying the poetry (or something else) each day like he did this year in Beyond. Have any of you ever waited until Preparing to do the Cheerful Cursive with your kids? We love that program! It was my daughter's favorite thing to do each day in Bigger.
If you did wait until Preparing to follow the Cheerful Cursive schedule, did you have them just to print everything that said cursive each day (1 box daily) and then start doing the cursive assignments in CTC? Also, in Bigger, did you just have them to copy the poem each week or did you do some other kind of handwriting?
Thanks!
Christy
Cursive handwriting question
Re: Cursive handwriting question
Hi Christy,
We are currently doing Preparing, and we waited until this year to do cursive. I don't think my son would have been ready before now. In the previous guides, we did everything in print. We are using a different handwriting program (HWT), and until now I have not had him do any of the HOD assignments in cursive. He could probably do one long sentence, or two short sentences now, but I won't push him beyond that until he is more confident. It has all worked just fine for us. Hope that helps!
