Examples of Schedules with 4 Guides?

Post by Mom2Monkeys » Wed Nov 14, 2012 4:07 pm

I'm trying to find samples of schedules with 4 similar guides and 4 similar aged kids but the thread of shared schedules is sooooooo many pages! And hopefully I can find some that add an outside activity or extra. I don't know HOW to pull this off!

I plan to start my almost 9yo in PHFHG very soon. In fall, I'll have ....

DD12 Rev2Rev plus greek and weekly group band/daily practice
DS 9 finish PHFHG and start CTC plus greek and weekly group band/daily practice
DS 7 BLHFGH and greek
DS 3/4 LHTH and just plain wild and crazy kid into everything so much we have locks on every door in the house to keep him out.

I wouldn't mind seeing samples for the following year's levels too.

MTMM
CTC/RTR
BHFHG
LHTH repeat with added phonics and some math

I can't tell you what to do with scheduling since I've not been there.

But one big thing to do that I speak with great experience on is . . .
You have to have some intense training time with your youngest.
Our 3 yo has a tendency to be wild if given an opportunity, but we reign her in. Easier said than done, I know.
I know it seems like you don't have time, but believe me when I say the scheduling goes a lot more smoothly
when the younger child(ren) allow you to work, and they have had their time first. We cut about an hour from our day that way!

Please, don't think I am being critical, just another mom with the same experience! Like I said I have been there, (only one child less).I apologize if it came out wrong, but this worked for me. I just wanted to give you some encouragement. It will all work out!

At the very least, I bumped this thread up to the top for you. :D

Hi Tamara! :D I can't help you with 4, as I only have 3 little blessings, but I was thinking this schedule of Carrie's may help? It's not exactly the same guide, but RTR is very similar to RevtoRev as far as time allotments overall, and it includes CTC, Beyond, and half-speed LHTH. Hope this can help get the ball rolling for you! :D :D :D

The schedule below is for 2009-2010. It includes Beau (age 3, doing Little Hands to Heaven half-time), Greyson (just turned 7, in 1st grade, doing Beyond Little Hearts at full-speed 4 days a week), Shaw (age 10, in 5th grade, doing Creation to Christ at full-speed), Cole (age 13, in 8th grade, piloting much of Resurrection to Reformation at full-speed).

I make a master schedule for me that is one sheet and only has on it those things that I must teach or oversee during the school day. I put this in a plastic page protector along with the boys’ individual schedules behind it. That way I can see at a quick glance what I should be doing and also what each individual child should be doing.

My Schedule:
7:30-8:00 Mike makes sure older boys are up and going
8:00-8:30 I make sure Greyson and Beau are up and going.
8:30-8:35 Dictation with Cole at kitchen table

10:40 Write with the Best/Grammar at kitchen counter with Shaw (oversee Beau)
11:00 Put Beau in crib with toys
11:05 Medieval History-Based Writing with Cole (morning room)
11:30 School with Greyson in morning room
1:00-1:10 Help make lunch
1:10-1:45 Lunch/Read-aloud
1:45-2:15 Watch over Beau and check work
2:15-3:15 Recess

Once I make a schedule, we work it every day until it becomes routine. The kiddos have timers for some subjects and generally watch the clock for the others. While I am not always on-time, I do keep the same order for each child every day. I have honestly found that to be the single most important thing schedule-wise that we do in our homeschool. If I am constantly changing my schedule, then my kiddos will never know what to expect, and I'll never hit the point at which the schedule really gives me freedom (because everyone knows what they're doing every day). Even if you don't like time allotments, just keeping the same general order of subjects every day will make a HUGE difference.

Blessings,
Carrie

Again, I only have 3 and we aren't in the same guides but I have found with myself and talking to other moms, that the littles come first! I spend 30 min with my 4yo while my 6 and 7 yo's finish up their chores. That time has become such a special time for the two of us and that one on one attention goes a long way. A book that has helped me out A LOT is Managers of Their Homes by Steve and Teri Maxwell.

After time with my youngest I do Beyond with the oldest while the 4 yo and 6 yo play a game together (this took some training time but has been well worth it). I save anything in Beyond that can be done independently for last and then work with 6 yo in Lhfhg. Hope this helps a little.

We also arent in the same guides, but what helps me is to get out all their books needed for the day before we start. Then I go over independent and semi-ind stuff with my oldest, then send her off to do it with all the items she needs (unless it's kitchen stuff  ). Then I go over things my Beyond child is learning to do ind. like math and ERs and spelling and send her to a different space. Then I do school with number three. By that time DD2 is done so I go over her ind work and do the rest of her school. Then is DD1 is still working I'll do school with dd4. If dd1 is finished I go over her work and then finish with her and then do school with dd4.

This year I have my 13yr. dd use Res. to Ref.
Two boys 11 & 12 using CtC
Ethan 9yr. using Bigger
Lance 8 using Little Hearts

My 13yr. dd does most of the work on her own and we meet more toward the evening.

What has helped me is to start with my two middle boys using CtC. I get them started and then they are off on their own and I work my way down. Next would be my "Bigger" child, then Little Hearts.

I then go back to my CtC for English, Writing, DITHOR or whatever we need to do together, back to my Bigger and Little Hearts.

It's kind of like spinning plates and trying to keep them spinning :? I know it probably doesn't sound to appetizing but it works for us.
