Clay (CTC)

Post by Bramble » Thu Sep 27, 2012 8:34 pm

Do you have to make new clay each time? or can you store what's left in the refrigerator? We tried to store it and it was really dry. Then he added water and it was too wet. :D

Every time we tried to "save" the clay it got weird and slimy.
Now with 2 of them in one program we use all of it each time.
Maybe try cutting the recipe in half?

CTC has so many different kinds of history projects that we were able to enjoy. :D Clay is made 4 times throughout the the 35 weeks of CTC, and the times it is made are quite spread out over the year. For this reason, I think it would be easiest just to make it each of those times. :) It is a good skill for dc to learn how to follow the directions to make a simple 'recipe' such as this, and to do it over the course of the year several times helped Wyatt learn how to do this well. It did not take Wyatt long to learn to make this all on his own, and he loved to use any leftover clay with his little brother for their play time together, so we looked forward to those few times throughout the year. I just wanted to encourage you that this doesn't come up very often, as there is much variety in the types of history projects dc do in CTC, but that it does come up often enough to begin to teach some basic following a recipe type skills that are very useful for training for future more difficult recipes in RTR through MTMM. HTH! :D
