CtoC Books - boring or interesting?

Hi! I am currently doing Preparing with DD9 and we are really enjoying it and we have loved most of the books. I was planning on continuing on with HOD for the next few years (in sequence) but when I look at the spines for CtoC, I find that they look boring to me. Do you enjoy the spines- Story of the Ancient World, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and Genesis - Finding our Roots? Or are they boring? I like the look of the history books that go along with them - the History Interest pack. Thanks for your comments.

DD loved almost all the books! Ancient Rome and the Plant Life in Field and Garden were the least favs, but she ate up the rest. We didn't completely finish Genesis Roots, but will probably do so in family time.

My dd is almost halfway through CTC, and I can honestly say, you can't judge a book by it's cover She has been both challenged and interested so far with The Story of the Ancient World, which is finished by Unit 18, day 1. I have skimmed through the rest of the spines, and as always, I am pleased as ever with Carrie's choices. Plus, as you are aware by now with Preparing, the way all the follow-up history activities, independent studies, history projects, and history-interest storytime books are intertwined, it makes for a wonderful, unified whole that really cements learning. I have learned a great deal along with my dd. Incidentally, Genesis Finding Our Roots is not a history spine, but a teacher-led Bible study which has prompted great discussions for us, and is rotated twice a week with the Geography book, which has also been a treasure-my dd has especially enjoyed making a recipe from each country we study at the end of each geography unit The What in the World CD also ties everything together very well, and is used in the Independent History Study section (the Draw and Write book and your child's own Bible are also used for Independent History). Story of the Ancient World is AMAZING. My DD was sooooo drawn into this one. We were debating CTC or RTR and when I let her read the samples of Ancient World, she begged me to get that one even if we didn't do CTC. Finding our Roots is one I really enjoyed personally, and she found very interesting...fun? no. But not boring in the least. All of the books are absolutely wonderful and bring history to life. Not dry or boring at all.

THankyou! Thankyou! That's what I was hoping to hear! I'm afraid that you are right, that the books do look boring from their covers, and I shouldn't judge them by that. I love Carrie's book choices in Preparing, so I should trust her for CtoC as well I am so glad to hear that they are interesting books!
