Placement - Suggestions/Help??

Post by momof4innc » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:28 am

Hi, everyone. I am a mom of 4 children - dd 11 (turns 12 in October), dd 9 (turns 10 in September), ds 8, & ds 6. We are coming out of 4 years with MFW to something else - just not sure what that "something else" is going to be :-). I love what I see here and am so appreciative of how supportive everyone is of the other parents sharing their journeys, etc. Here's where we are:

Based on the placement charts, I would have one in Little Hearts, one in Beyond Little Hearts, and my daughters could feasibly do Creation to Christ together with the extension for my oldest daughter.

It feels terrible to say this, but I'm struggling with the financial aspect. If I get everything I want to get, I'm at about $600 for my daughters alone without math.

Help!!! What can I do to economize? Maybe I start my girls here and work by boys in next year?? I'm such an all-or-nothing kind of gal that I want to jump in full force, but, financially, we just can't. Any advice appreciated :-).

Assuming you have them all placed correctly (most 9yo's would struggle in CTC, especially if they are new to HOD), there isn't a lot you could do differently unless, like you suggested, you didn't start the boys yet (but I get your point--I'm all or nothing too!)

I know this isn't a lot of help with this year, but I did want to point out that at least you will use CTC again. I bought CTC for this coming year, and the price is difficult, especially since it for my youngest (DD 11). I didn't mind so much purchasing Rev2Rev for my 15YO because, at least I will be able to reuse that one!

This year my bill was over $1200 just for my HOD stuff. Plus we do a separate math, and my oldest is high school, so we added in Spanish and some additional Bible, music and art! My consolation is that next year (and each year after that), I will only have to buy one set, as my youngest will finally have reached the point where my older boy started! It's so much easier to buy books for older sibs, knowing they will be passed down!

Hi momof4innc, and welcome to the HOD Board! :D I am excited for you to begin your journey with HOD! I am wondering about your 6 and 8 yo? Do they solidly place in LHFHG and Beyond? Could you share a bit about them, and when they turn 7 and 9? As far as savings go, HOD's packages are the best way to save. There is a lot of savings that comes right off the top by getting packages. The next way to save would be to do 1 Storytime for your LHFHG/Beyond dc. Another way to save would be to choose your own books or use your library for "Drawn into the Heart of Reading" and for Storytime for your olders. I don't think you'd have to have extensions for your 11 turning 12 yo for CTC either. Those are a few ideas I had, but I'd love to hear about your LHFHG and Beyond dc's specifics of placement if you get the chance! :D
