Carrie-
Like several others, I have a 9th grader and need to "beef up" M2MM to give high school credit.
I feel comfortable adding to chemistry and economics based on your suggestions.
The English credit is a bit more challenging. In previous posts, you've offered many Lit. ideas but also mentioned that you will use some of the suggested books in future guides. My dd will miss the final year of HOD history...which is essentially the same period as MM2M. Do you know of any selections that you WILL use in that final history year? I would like to use those as my primary "beef ups" to MM2M. I'd like to cover your "favorites" AND not risk selecting books this year that you include in one of the three years of HOD she will do before graduation.
Also, if you know of other Am Lit that you WILL use in the first year (which will be her senior yr) that would be helpful to know so they are hands off during the M2MM year for us.
I know it's a lot to ask at this point, but it would be extremely helpful as I add to MM2M. Thank you!
Amanda
Lit selections for final HOD year
Re: Lit selections for final HOD year
Amanda,
I so wish I could give you a lit. list of what is ahead for each guide, but I honestly never quite know how it will end up as the entire make-up of the guide affects which choices we make for each area. I can tell you that at this point for the literature credit for the senior year of our guides we are looking at having one semester where we allow kiddos to choose to do either Leithert's Miniatures and Morals (with 4 Austen selections) or Leithert's Brightest Heaven of Inventions (with 4 Shakespeare selections). For the other semester, we are looking at having kiddos do Lightning Lit's British Christian Authors. We have yet to test these with our own oldest son, so of course until we do these will not be "sure" picks, but right now we are leaning heavily in this direction for the senior year. The other years of lit. will be different than this.
We will include some Austen and some Shakespeare in our other years of lit., so kiddos will read from both of these authors prior to their senior year. We are sill leaning in the Smarr direction for lit. for the other years of high school (however we will likely mix and match from his available titles to make a year of Intro. to Lit, a year of world lit., and a year of American lit.) The Intro. to Lit. would be the guide that we will likely stay with more closely to the fashion he currently has it with fewer substitutions.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Lit selections for final HOD year
Carrie -
Thanks so much.
I found Miniatures and Morals free on Google bks if anyone else wants to explore that option for a ninth grader this year. I certainly don't want dd to miss it... (print copy only $12 ) Will check into the other selection as well.
Printed an overrview of SMARR's materials so I will avoid those titles until you include them.
Hope you and and your guys have a wonderful summer
Looking forward to M2MM!!!
