How long each day to complete COMPLETE curriculum?

Post by momoffourblessings » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:52 am

Hello everyone, I am considereing buying the PHFHG. I had read where it is listed as taking approximately 4 hours to complete each day for 4 days. I was wondering if anyone knows or from experience if this is for the entire COMPLETE curriculum. The COMPLETE curriculum meaning: PHFHG, DITHOR, and Self Study Hx readers/activites or is the time listed just for PHFHG activites (which includes Science, Math and LA). What parts of the curriculum are you using, how long does it take you to complete it each day, and for how many days?

I LOVE academics, but God has laid it upon my heart many times over to focus on the eternal education of my children more than the academic education of my children. That is why it is important to me that this curriculum does not take any longer than 4 hours to complete. I would prefer 3 hours but if my children love the program, they learn, retain and it draws them to a deeper understanding and love for God I can live with 4.

Any information would greatly be appreciated!!! :D

You can see my3sons (Julie) response here. It does not include the extension books, but does include DITHOR. HTH.

I think you'll find your statement above to be very true as you use HOD. I also think you'll discover that, with HOD, academic education and eternal education are not mutually exclusive, but instead are beautifully intertwined. For me, personally, I have loved the many spiritual discussions my dc and I have had as we work our way through HOD's programs.

Agreeing! :D

Also, we are just starting our 2nd week of Preparing now, and I really think that everything will fit within the 4 hour time span.
Blessings,
Elisabeth

As long as the dc is properly placed yes it only takes 4 hours to do Preparing. As others have said what makes HOD different is that the bible is interwoven into everything. It isn't just a subject to do and be done with. My ds has grown spiritually in so many ways through the teaching in HOD. One example is that it has taught him to have a daily bible quiet time. Even when doing something very "academic" like DITHOR there are days where dc look for Godly Character traits and see how the character in their book compares to characters in the bible as far as things like humility, faith, etc.

Yes, approximately 4 hours to complete a day of Preparing, including DITHOR, and provided you are using the recommended grammar and math, not making any substitutions which may lengthen your day :) Adding extensions will add about 30 more minutes to the day, but that is independent work. Remember, Independent history study and science are also independent work, which means less of your time despite the 4 hours it takes total for your child.

I would say 4 hours is about the exact time including 30 min for math and 30 minutes for DITHOR. Sometimes the notebooking for History or Science may take them longer than the 30 min time slot I alotted for it. By the way I just found the notebooking pages that someone put together for Preparing for the Science and History on the yahoo HOD group. Search the yahoo groups for the HOD group. It's in their files section. Beautiful. Since we have only done 2 days in Preparing I am printing these. I think using a Notebooking page will help my kids to speed up slightly.

We do spend from 8 am until 2:30pm doing school and life. This includes our lunch break and schooling 2 kids along with juggling a toddler and preschooler. I also include computer school (rotating between Spanish and typing) for 30 min each day and piano practice time (30 min slot but only 20 min practice). I tend to give a little wiggle room to allow for bathroom breaks and such.

I have found that the academics in Preparing is good but the Bible and the way the Bible is woven in is AMAZING! Carrie did a great job!

You can also save their History project and complete it on your 5th day when you aren't doing the program.
