HELP! Independent Histpry in Preparing??

Post by mrsrandolph » Wed May 23, 2012 10:51 am

So we are supposed to begin Preparing tomorrow. We school year round.

I noticed Draw and Write Through History listed in one of the boxes, and I didn't order it. Evidently this is part of the "independent history study". I am confused as to what this is (the independent history study). Do I do it with mine or not? They are 8 and 9, soon to be 9 & 10.

Since the book is listed in a box, I assume I need it, but what other books do I need?

Or DO I need it?

Help??? FAST!!

Hi!

I think Carrie would say it's important for your children to do this section, as it helps to develop independent reading skills and following directions. (I'm going to begin Preparing in a few weeks with my 10 year old son.)

If you are going to do it, you would need the book you mentioned along with the other books in the SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE listed on this page: http://www.heartofdakota.com/preparing- ... ckages.php

For what it's worth, the books in that package look really great!

Hope that helps!
Blessings,
Elisabeth

Hi Shannon,

We just finished Preparing today!! Yeah! The independent history box is supposed to be for students to do on their own...to "enhance the study of history" as the catalog says. It is optional and has 12 books that are used with it. Follow the link the previous poster gave...the deluxe package should be listed below the extension package.

I personally wouldn't want to skip it...it was one of my dd's favorite parts of Preparing and she learned a lot by doing it. She's 9 by the way, almost 10. It included (and I'm kind of copying this info from the Introduction in the guide) reading, oral narration, copywork, notebook entries and Biblical connections...also copying, tracing and drawing from a model.

I'm thinking you might have been confused by the SELF-STUDY EXTENSION PACKAGE and the SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE. The extension package is for older students and the Deluxe package is for the 8-10 year olds. the Deluxe package is scheduled every day in the Independent History box.
