Testing is done!

And to sing the praises of HOD..

Grace (ending 1st grade) is in unit 16 (I think, maybe 17) of Beyond and she scored overall 2nd grade 5th month... she was above average in everything except punctuation/capitalization and spelling. But I think she just wasn't thinking when she did spelling because she's a pretty good speller. She hasn't had any trouble with spelling list two. She was right at grade level with both of those though. OH, and the punctuation/capitalization test doesn't actually "count" because they technically aren't expected to have had any instruction in that yet.

Jayden (ending 3rd grade) is starting unit 11 of Preparing tomorrow. She scored overall 5th grade 4th month! She was right at grade level with spelling (again, think something went weird there...) and reading comprehension... I think something went wrong with the reading comprehension with her though because there isn't much that she reads that she doesn't understand... maybe she misunderstood the instructions or something? But I'm fine with right at grade level :) Her sight word reading was 7th grade 2nd month! That shocked me because she so hates to read! She improved greatly on EVERYTHING, and her math fluency (speed) went from 2.0 in last years test to 4.3 this year! So that's a testament to both HOD (hands on) and Singapore.

The proctor was asking me what we use and what we do for reading and math. She was shocked and amazed that we do not do phonics (our family) and don't work on math facts (again, our family). But was really just in awe of HOD and how it works. She has 9 and 7 year old boys and she has decided she's of the opinion that they'll learn when they are going to learn no matter what you do, but a good base is the best thing. She loved the way the Emerging Readers and then into DITHOR work!

Great job and thanks for the encouragement! I'll be testing with my daughter in 3 weeks. She's 6 and finishing up Beyond in a couple weeks. Since it's not required until age 7 in our state I get to administer it, but I'm just nervous for her. She's excelling, but it's our job to be anxious right? Now I just have to make sure I don't project my nerves on to her!
