LHFHG Burgess Storytime Books

Post by mommybelle » Sat May 19, 2012 3:20 pm

My daughter is already loving the first Burgess book, The Adventures of Reddy Fox! We are currently doing LHFHG at half-speed, but she wants to do story-time at full-speed because this is her favorite part about school. However, I wanted to make sure that none of the storytime boxes coincide with the history or science lessons for the week before we move ahead full-speed on storytime. At first glance, it doesn't appear that they do.

Or should I supplement with another chapter book for those off days? I didn't know if introducing another chapter book would be too much jumping from one book to another or are the Burgess stories (going forward) for each day pretty easy to end on. This option is also easy to do as she LOVES to sit for me to read to her.

From what I remember, they do not coincide with science or other subjects. However, by reading extra, you will have more than one storytime box to complete in a day, which may or may not be too much. My dd wanted more when we did those books, but I told her she had to wait. Teaches them patience.

Well...my boys were the same way. They did NOT want me to stop, and I'm of the thought "if a kids is asking for more READING, who am I to challenge THAT!?"

You have 2 choices...maybe more...You could do a reading each day, because they ARE separate from the other subjects. Then when you have finished all of the Burgess books, jump into some other great chapter books. There are even some other Thorton Burgess books your child might enjoy from your library. :D

Or you could only do your read alouds at half pace as well as the rest of your guide. :D

I can understand her wanting to read a chapter each day. In fact, that may be better for her comprehension because you won't have days between the readings. There are lots of other Burgess books if she enjoys his stories.
