Question on Preparing's "self-study deluxe" readers

Hello Smart Mama's,

I have a question on Preparing's "self-study deluxe" for the new independent reader. I love the titles, I can see my son enjoying them, but are these to take the place of the regularly scheduled "story time"? If I read to him the history text, then the story time, then there's the independent history work with projects and Draw Write assignments, on top of those he is to read the additional self study readers? That seems like a LOT in one day for history. I'm wondering if those readers were intended to take the place of the the story time readers? Can anyone clarify this for me?

The self study readers are scheduled in the Independent History box. They are not extra reading, they alternate with the draw and write through history book.

You read the storytime and reading about history books to him...he reads to self study readers to himself (those fit in with the independent history as netpea said). He reads DITHOR books to you aloud. That's the different reading types here in a given day.
It seems like a lot for "JUST" history if it were just history, but in fact, there's a gazillion skills woven into those projects and all the other stuff, and it just happens to fit nicely with history. You've got language arts, handwriting, narration, art, fine motor, attention to detail, following directions, and so much more built right into the guide. So you're really killing like ten birds with one stone. Gazillion may have been a little exaggerated. Maybe. A little.
