BLHFHG actually uses the 2nd grade Science book. I have used both the K and 1st grade books with my kids and I don't think they are much different from each other but the K book goes with the activities in the manual and the 1st grade book doesn't quite match.

I'm sorry! I noticed just as soon as I had submitted my comment that you had already made up your mind.

Here is the scoop on what I'm doing. I had already purchased the Rod & Staff books when I purchased Little Hands to Heaven, so when I place my order, I am going to order the Thinking Skills Grade 1 book as well. If you want a view into that book, go to rainbowresource.com and type in "Thinking Skills Grade 1." Then click on the picture of the book and you will see a place where you can view the pages. It does appear that some reading may be required of the parent (if your daughter isn't reading yet...which mine is also not by the way).

I did like the comment where someone recommended to go half-pace with full-pace on fine motor skills doing fine motor skills every day. If you did this, you could start with the Rod & Staff books which are the Kindergarten option and then you'd eventually get to the Thinking Skills Grade 1 book if she is working on fine motor skills every day...or at least I think you would. If money is not an issue, I would just go ahead and buy the Rod & Staff books and the Thinking Skills Grade 1 book as the additional cost is only $6.95 if you aren't sure between those two. It would cost you that in shipping to order the Thinking Skills Grade 1 from HOD again later.

That above covers the Economy Package.

Then, pick the Bible that is best for your child (look at Amazon's previews to pick one). I do think a lot of people like the Family-Time Bible for the pictures. I am just going with the older option because my daughter enjoys reading Bible stories from my Bible.

You've already decided on option 3 (for Handwriting).

For the basic package, I am personally going to order the Kindergarten option which comes with "The World God Made 'K'," Devotions for the Children's Hour, Hide 'Em in Your Heart Volume 1 CD and the Earlybird Kindergarten. THEN, on top of that, I am going to order the science text, "Our Father's World" which is the 1st grade option. I will use both science texts (The World God Made K and Our Father's World) IF my daughter is interested in reading them both. If not, I'll go with the one more age appropriate. I just think it is cheaper to buy these additions now instead of having to pay for shipping of these again later. My daughter LOVES to read though so that is why I am buying both! But, I've heard many people say that the K option is sufficient.

It is the third science text option offered for LHFHG, "God's Wonderful Works," that is used in Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory, so that is the one we will use the next year.

As for math, I agree with you. I am a math person myself, and I think the foundation for mathematics is what helps a child love and grasp the math in later years.

Storytime books are...Peter Cottontail, Jerry Muskrat, Peter Rabbit, Chatterer the Red Squirrel, Grandfather Frog, Reddy Fox, Buster Bear, and Danny Meadow Mouse.

I hope that helps! And I hope I didn't confuse you more! :)

Beyond comes with the 2nd grade science :) It is what is scheduled in the guide.

We prefer the K science book. They are pretty close to the same, but we just like the K better. They have no trouble going from K to 2 in science. We have science experiment packs to "supplement" (for fun, not necessity)
