About You??

Post by mrsrandolph » Sat Apr 28, 2012 2:44 pm

I'm sure this has been done before, but I would love for us to share where we live and a little about our families and homeschooling journeys!

I'll start. I am Shannon Randolph. I am married to Chris (who is an Autism specialist in the public schools). I am in Cartersville, GA. In my "former life" I was a teacher and reading specialist in the public schools. I have been using HOD from the get go with my children. Cassie is 9, Will is 8, Ellie is 6, and Jack is 4. We have used LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, Bigger, and just began Preparing. We also just began DITHOR with my oldest 2. I use Saxon Math and All About Reading.

My favorite thing about HOD is that it is TRULY Christ Centered! It is not just the word "God" or "Jesus" sprinkled in with some secular text. The Sovereignty of God and ALL that He is infuses EVERY box of every guide!! YAY Carrie and Mike!!

I also love the FABULOUS books Carrie has chosen for us.

I can't wait to hear from others!

HI!

I am new to HOD and new to these boards, but not new to homeschooling :) I was a school teacher at one time, but I have overcome that handy cap :D I have been homeschooling for nine years (or 12 if you count from birth)!

I am loving HOD and so are my kids!! I have used several different curriculums, but finally found home. Awesome right? This is the first curriculum I have found that really tries to tie the Bible into every area of life. I can use it as written (which I have never been able to do before), and easily add those extras that we enjoy so much.

What drew me to HOD was first that it was centered around Christ. The next thing that drew me was that there was a manual that fit each of my children. I have 5 sons and a daughter. The older 5 are the boys and they each have a different manual. So I am using RevtoRev, CTC, Preparing, Beyond, and LHTH. Seems like alot, but for us it's actually just right. If you could see where we came from you would understand why I am so happy now with this curriculum. I have always been a fan of Charlotte Mason, but I wanted just that touch of Classical that HOD gives to make it just right. My oldest has always struggled with spelling and he is finally enjoying and learning spelling through studied dictation. I am just so impressed.

I always wanted to do crafts, but they just never seemed to get done. We are finally getting crafts done and my kids love them. I also love the science choices. Overall my boys have just loved the books. We also switched to SM for math and I can already see a difference. I can not say enought good things about HOD!

I will step aside to say that i can't wait to see MTMM! I am really looking forward to my special email. LOL

We are a very busy bunch, but I have enjoyed reading the threads and hope to participate when I can. Thanks for letting me type!

I'm Rachel, married to Brian (an assistant pastor) for 11 years. We have 4 children ages 1 - 10. We both had been homeschooled growing up, and knew even before we had kids that that was the direction we wanted for our family. We are finishing up our 3rd year with HOD, and I can't say enough good things about it! We love everything about it, the Biblical focus, the living books, the history projects, the great storytime/DITHOR books, the poetry, timelines, the quality discussions that we have... my kids are getting such a quality, Christ-centered education, and we are thrilled! Having a 1 year old has certainly kept me on my toes, as I've rescued her off the table, out of the litterbox, out of the toilet, ect... but we are having fun!

Hi everybody!
I'm Jennifer, wife to Ray of 17 years, and mommy to DD6, DS5, DD3, and DD18 mths. We are from sunny Southern Cal. We own a swimming pool contruction business, I also work part-time for our business doing bookkeeping. Pre-mommy I was a bookkeeper for 14 years for another company.

I've only been homeschooling for 2 years, but I feel so blessed to have found HOD straight out of the gate. I've done LHTH with my DS for the past year and half, we are so excited to start LHFHG for kinder with him and have begun The Reading Lesson. For my DD we've done LHFHG and are finishing up Beyond in a few weeks. We've done all of Carrie's suggestions and have done the boxes as is.

What I love about HOD is how easy it is for me to teach. Schooling only takes a couple of hours to do, within that few hours I feel real good about the subjects covered, and how well my kids are growing in their learning. I also don't feel like hs'ing is taking up the WHOLE day, which leaves me time to run the office, keep the house up and keep after 4 kids under 6 years old. My favorite part of HOD is bible study and reading history at breakfast every morning. And how DD insist that reading and storytime has to only be done on the couch together!

I'm such a nut about HOD that I carry catalogues in my diaper bag to give out to anyone that hints they might be homeschooling. I love how Christ centered it truly is.

My name is Lee Ann. I used to scrapbook, knit and sew. But since my littlest honey learned to walk, I've not had time for any of that anymore. She is all go go go. We attend a bible study on Thursday mornings and occasionally do things with homeschool groups.
My oldest attended preschool for a month. Every day he came home crying because he didn't learn to read so we quit that and started homeschooling with LHTH. We used LHFHG as well, but Beyond was just coming out and I was afraid to order something I couldn't "see" yet. So we tried MFW which wasn't a good fit for us. We had some other bumps in the road as well. My son is now in public school and I have my daughters at home, age 9 finishing up Bigger Hearts and age 2, soon to start LHTH. My children love HOD and so do I.
