HOD vs other curriculum
HOD vs other curriculum
I am interested in MFW, HOD and Christ-centered curriculums. I am going to start my 3 and 4 year old in the fall. they will be 4 and 5 in oct. My question is what are the pros/cons of these. which do you think is better as far as academically and bibically. have a friend and loves MFW and another who quit using it because she said it wasnt enough for her kids. mfw looks less expensive and were on a very limited budget. I feel like i will need help structurally getting going especially since i have an infant also. So which one is more teacher freindly? also my oldest looks to be hands on as he is great at figureing out video games.
Re: HOD vs other curriculum
All I can tell you about HOD vs MFW from my personal experience is that looking at MFW teachers guide left me totally confused and there was WAY too much prep work, whereas HOD is totally open and go.... especially LHTH... it would totally be so easy to use with a baby around.

Re: HOD vs other curriculum
About the hands-on-there is lots and lots of meaningful hands-on in HOD's guides. If your kids are close in ability you could do Little Hands to Heaven with both of them-if the one who will be 5 is ready for more, you could add the Kindergarten options from Little Hearts for His Glory for him and then the next year do Little Hearts for His Glory with Grade 1 options for the older and K for the younger. Combining can save you on cost if they are close enough in abilities to do so

Re: HOD vs other curriculum
Hi jkmorrill, and welcome to the HOD Board!
Two of the things I love about HOD are its academic focus and its Christ-centered learning so you sound like a great match with HOD. I depend on HOD to help me know when to teach important academic skills, and how to do that in manageable steps. HOD has helped me successfully teach my dc to give excellent oral narrations, to write detailed written narrations, to edit their own writing carefully, to answer higher level comprehension questions with clarity, to follow multiple step directions for projects independently, to create a lovely history student notebook each year, to do their own Bible Quiet Time at the start of each day complete with reading their own Bible/Scripture Memorization/Devotional Studies/Music/and Prayer following The Lord's Prayer model, to have a personal Bible Study time with me each day, often focusing on developing a Biblical Worldview and sharing our faith, and soooooooooo many more important skills. Not to mention, HOD is just steeped in the Lord. If you tried to drop Him from the day, you couldn't. He is part of it all in such a beautiful, connected way. Oh, and I count on HOD being an open-and-go curriculum. It is mom-friendly, and our dc love homeschooling with it. I thought you may enjoy reading this previous thread as well...
