Additional student packages
I was thinking as I have bought items for CTC this year and didn't realize I needed 2 copies of WWTB for the girls to each have their own copy to circle and underline in the passages...Will HOD ever offer convenient packages for the 2nd student with all the consumables needed for that guide?

Re: Additional student packages
I just copied those story sections for my dd to mark up.
I marked up my own copy with the right answers, then I file it all with our grade level work.

Re: Additional student packages
I'll use CtC next year with my two boys and was wondering if I need to purchase multiple copies as well. Would I need one for myself too for easy correcting? (since I'll have two more a few years later using CtC)
From the sample it looks like there is a copyright that says we can't copy any pages, correct me if I'm wrong though.
Appreciate any help,

Re: Additional student packages
I will have to check that out. I have been copying the passages sections b/c the kids need to underline and circle things in different colors and there is no way for both of them to do the work with one book. The "answer key" is in the back of the book. I will probably cut mine out of one of the books to use when "grading". When going over things with the girls, I will probably just use one of their books and they can share the book and then after going over the lesson, I will give the borrowed book back to that child for them to do the work.Homeschooling6 wrote:I'll use CtC next year with my two boys and was wondering if I need to purchase multiple copies as well. I haven't bought a second copy yet, but I will if I see the copyright saying not to copy. Honestly though, I find it easier to have books on hand than to be rushing off to copy pages. I am just not that prepared to look in advance and get the copies made.

Thank you, I'd appreciate you checking. I'm glad there is an answer key, whew, scared me for a moment. I misunderstood Annaz post and thought I had to know the answersTidbits of Learning wrote:

Sometimes I find it easier to purchase another book too, especially when it comes to about the same in price.

So I will be buying another copy for my other dd. The majority of the assignments are written works of your child's such as a descriptive paragraph or descriptive words and those would not require an answer key. The passages from the books though often ask the child to circle nouns, adjectives, descriptive verbs,....and there is an answer key in the back of the book for those assignments.

Re: Additional student packages
Well then they'll have to come and arrest me because I've already done it.
The only thing I copy are the blurbs that are taken directly from classical book they choose to use, which are not WWTB's curric info. Those story portions aren't WWTB's info, so to spend extra, is absurd IMO. I'll stick to using common sense. For the expense, I could buy the book and mark it up. But I also never resell.
Edited to add: Let me also add that there is something called Fair Use. To use these blurbs from a classic story would be fair to copy. To copy the WWTB book in it entirety is a completely illegal as would a workbook or something like HOD's student pages. WWTB not a workbook or a consumable. To use a page for home use that's a blurb from a book to be found elsewhere, would never hold up. Another example, WinterPromise says you can't resell their guides. I'm not a reseller, but legally you can resell it, just as you can resell a cd or any book. Legally, they can say whatever they want as well, but as far as holding up in court in addition to what is Fair Use, is quite a different matter. I can resell anything I buy, but I'd never copy it, keep the copy then resell the original and usually that's what some of the company's policy is trying to alleviate. I understand their concerns with this.
The ebooks WWTB sells I'll bet contains more than the blurbs they're using in WWTB.
Not trying to be snarky, just realistic.

Re: Additional student packages
Per WwtB pg. 11, #13: "Parents are permitted to copy only the pages containing the cited literary passages....and the "Proofreading Checklist" for their students' use. You will need to make copies of the pages containing the cited literary passages and the "Proofreading Checklist" if you are using the book for more than one student or if you desire to maintain the book unmarked. Therefore, under such circumstances, making copies of these passages and the "Proofreading Checklist" is not just permitted, but also recommended."
Hope that helps clarify a bit.

Honestly, I thought I read this somewhere and couldn't remember if it was in HOD's TM or WWTB TM. I'm nursing an inner ear infection I've never, ever had before and it's messing with my brain. I remember going to grab the TM's to try to find it, and now I don't remember what happened with that thought process.Keilleaghn wrote:Per WwtB pg. 11, #13: "Parents are permitted to copy only the pages containing the cited literary passages....and the "Proofreading Checklist" for their students' use.
