I have read all the board posts I could find about CTC supplies but still can't seem to get my answer.
I would like to know how many 3 ring binders to use for CTC. One for the student notebook and one for the science notebook or just one large one for everything? How big of a 3 ring binder should I get? The one inch was not big enough for my dd in PHFHG.
Here is what I understand I need on hand, someone please tell me if I am missing anything:
Art supplies-
Watercolor paper
watercolors
brushes
sponges etc
Common Place Book (we will continue using her one from PHFHG)
Binder for Student Notebook (3 inch?)
Binder for Science Notebook?
Spiral Notebook for Dictation-(I have had her write her dictation in a spiral notebook and we will just continue using the one from PHFHG.)
Nature Journal (what is this and where do I get it and what does it look like?)
Anything else?
Thanks,
Edie

This is what works for us. I got ds a 1 in. binder for history and one for science. I use tab dividers for each binder. History - Notebook pages, history projects (where we store any "flat" projects), and geography. Science - notebook pages, lab. reports, answers to questions. I would rather have several smaller binders rather than one huge binder. You won't need a nature journal as HOD is written. You are given instructions to make little journals for a few of the units. We do our own nature studies and have journals. What I have found works best is a composition book. We found some made of recycled paper at Staples. The covers are cardboard with pretty flowers. The paper is a natural colored paper. We sketch our drawings on plain white paper, color, and then cut out and glue into the composition books. Then we use the lines to write notes or copy poems.

Re: CTC supplies to have to start
We use a big notebook (Trapper Keeper) with folder dividers for subjects that have dividers as well to break it all down. We don't have a lot of space so 1 big notebook is easier to keep track of than a lot of smaller ones. It also is easier for the kids. They just get the one notebook and keep it at the table the whole day. I think it is 2 or 2 1/2 inch notebooks that Trapper Keeper makes.
I went ahead and printed everything I could in advance. I printed all the geography printouts and put them in the binder. I scanned the science lab sheet and printed a lot of them to have on hand. I printed a copy of the student written narration guidelines and oral narration guidelines and laminated them for my dc to have on hand.
Here are some things we use frequently-
Construction Paper
Bible Highlighter (if they are using their own Bible)
Cornstarch (used in air dry clay a lot)
Sharpie markers (black)
index cards
This is something I like to have because it is makes clean up easy. The pre-cut pop up aluminum foil sheets from Reynold's wrap. I buy mine in boxes at the Dollar Store. They are perfect for laying out your air dry clay projects and stuff to dry that has been painted or glued. The kids just put the Reynold's wrap at the table and do the work there and then tote it to the counter to dry. It saves my table and counter a lot of messes.

How exciting you are in the stage of getting ready to begin CTC, doubleportion!
There are different choices you can make for supplies in CTC. The "Introduction" in CTC helped me make my selections. I like to read through it and choose my supplies as I read, jotting them in the margin. It looks like ladies have done a good job of sharing their selections here, so I'll just share this link in case it would be helpful as you gather paint supplies...

Edie,
I'm so glad that the ladies have helped you.
I did want to mention, just in case anyone else has the same question that the Introduction to each guide lists the types of supplies you're mentioning in the descriptions for each subject area. So, the Introduction is a great place to figure out what is needed for starting your new guide. Here is CTC's Introduction. Link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/CTC-Introduction.pdf
You may want to print it out and just highlight needed binders, notebooks, etc. under each subject's description. Link: I've found that helps me!
Blessings,
Carrie
