Singapore math ?

Post by leeannpal » Sat Feb 11, 2012 4:26 pm

Has anyone started using Singapore with a child who was previously in school and using a typical classroom math program? If so, how was the transition? I really love the look of Singapore.

There's so many moms who have transitioned from the classroom to homeschool setting, and many who have made the transition to Singapore math successfully. :D Placement is key in making sure that you have a successful transition. To get the correct placement, you'll want to give the placement test linked here. Link: http://www.singaporemath.com/Placement_Test_s/86.htm

Give the primary mathematics 3rd ed. test to match the edition scheduled in our guides. Begin testing at a level beneath where you think your child is currently functioning in math, and move up to the next test as your child passes the previous one. :D

It is good to keep in mind that kiddos in Singapore begin math 1A at age 7 (so don't make the mistake of thinking of 1A as first grade math). :D Also, be sure not to give your child any help with the math testing, or you won't gain a true picture of what your child can really do. Last, don't be in a hurry to rush through Singapore math too quickly, or you will soon find that you have progressed to concepts your child may not be mentally mature enough to grasp. :D

We love Singapore math here, after using an embarrasing number of other math progams with our oldest son! :D Our three youngest have only ever had Singapore math. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I was wondering the same thing. My DD is 7 now almost 8. I would like to move to Singapore as well but she is behind in Math advanced in LA. She would probably need the 1A or 1B but that is not scheduled in Bigger. I guess I should have her sit down and take the placement and see where she really is.
