LHFHG - Enjoying the 2nd time around

Post by Tracee » Mon Jan 30, 2012 3:27 pm

This is my second time in LHFHG, and it's been going great! My dc are loving it. I'm so much more confident using HOD now. Our first year with HOD was a little hard, but not because of HOD, it was just an adjustment period on our part. My oldest was 5 1/2, and really wasn't quite ready for LHFHG yet. I started back for 1st grade and things went much smoother, but I still struggled staying on schedule, and I ended up dragging LHFHG out way too long. My ds was ready for Beyond and we didn't finish LHFHG.

Now, my 5 year old twins are doing LHFHG and my 7 year old is doing Beyond. Things are going great! I wanted to give everyone a big THANK YOU for all your advice and support. It really does get easier. I'm so glad I didn't give up. All the advice about writing out a schedule with who does what when and not allowing complaining and bad attitudes has really helped us. Our day flows so well, that I catch myself going back to the guide to make sure I didn't miss something.

:D :D :D :D :D

That is so wonderful to hear. I also don't believe it would just be an HOD thing, it honestly took me three years from when I started home schooling before things started going more smoothly. But now we are in HOD, because of the way I did things last year, the transition is appearing to be relatively smooth thus far. Mind you, we are still waiting on LHFHG to arrive in the post for DS1.

I do pray that you and your children continue to enjoy your HOD journey. It certainly is proving to be a blessing for our family.

HOORAY, Tracy! :D :D :D This was such a joy to read. I am so glad you are enjoying LHFHG a 2nd time around and finding your groove with homeschooling. We are on our 3rd time going through LHFHG, and I have to say each time I have looked forward to coming back to it. It is just a great way to teach that age of dc. They learn to love homeschooling and feel successful with their learning right from the start. Thanks for sharing here! :D

Tracy,

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying LHFHG the second time around! :D You are so right that it does actually get easier to use HOD as you go and know what to expect. :D Plus it is true that as we settle into the homeschooling teaching role, we feel more at ease in our day (and so do the kiddos). :D

We are currently doing LHFHG for the third time, and with each child it has felt different. It is a joy to teach the young ones for me, especially with older kiddos with harder material to take up the rest of my day! Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie
