handwriting paper for grade 1

What type and size of handwriting paper is appropriate for 1st grade work? We are doing copywork and spelling from Beyond.

Hi,

I use this site: http://www.worksheetworks.com/english/w ... -copy.html for my ds who is doing Beyond. You can change the size as needed but I think I started him at a text size of 15 at the beginning of the program. You can type in your copywork and print it or you can print a text-free form if you want to write it in yourself (we did this - for some reason DS didn't like the printed text ).

We've moved on to regular lined paper but this site really helped a tremendous bit.

In general, writing goes from bigger to smaller as dc's fine motor skills improve. Dc also go from needing the middle dotted line, to the middle dotted line being an obstacle to them writing quickly. If dc cannot make their letters the appropriate height without the middle dotted line, they still need it. I think the right paper depends on the child, and the stage of writing he/she is in. Wyatt did well with blank paper, and Riley wanted lines. I liked using blank paper and drawing lines with a ruler for Riley. We started with lines far apart and moved the lines closer together until he was able to transition to writing on wide-lined notebook paper.
