Loving The Hands-On Aspect

I have to commend Carrie for including relevant hands-on activities in the guides. Sometimes I feel like "can't we just skip this?" when I see a dramatization or action rhyme in the guide (I'm a reader by nature, not a do-er).
Time and again the kids LOVE the hands on activities, and it really helps cement their learning. Math activities, crafts, Bible dramatizations, Rhymes In Motion, playing catch with Bible verses, you name it, they love it. I wouldn't have thought to do these things, and these are the things my children love the most about their school. Thanks Carrie, for knowing kids so well.

I completely agree! The hands-on is one of my favorite parts of HOD...they're fun for the kids and so easy for mom to implement! I also like that my kids have their own little acitivity everyday, it's something they don't have to share, lol.

I sympathize! I wanted to skip the Saladin model made with a pop bottle this week (RTR), but then my kids wouldn't stop. They wanted to add feet and arms and.... You get the picture. They loved it!

I couldn't agree more. Especially when we first started with HOD, I would think this project sounds too messy or too juvenile or whatever excuse I could come up with that day . I would tell my dc about it, and they were so excited to try it. They've loved them all. I have finally come to learn that all of those projects do have a purpose and help cement the learning and even if I think it is too easy, messy, etc., my dc always love it. Carrie understands children and what they like so much better than I do! All of those projects are worthwhile. I have now learned my lesson and we don't skip any of them now!

I love the hands-on too. We've been using another curriculum this year and I'm having to add my own hands on. It is so hard to find projects that are age appropriate, don't take a ton of materials I don't have, easy, actually apply to what we are doing and aren't just busy work, etc. After all the time it took me to find just a few projects, I am more appreciative than ever of the time and hard work that Carrie puts into finding great activities for all the guides!

Ditto - I'd be pretty lost without the hands-on planned for me in HOD. I tend to either go way over the top and end up taking over hands-on projects, or I shoot way too low and the connection isn't there. I'm so thankful HOD plans relevant, fun, doable, time conscious, supply conscious projects!

I love the hands on element as well. I tend to be the type who tries to take over . I've actually started doing my own project alongside my girls so I'm not tempted to "help." I would never have been able to come up with these types of activities on my own with any type of regularity.
