The day took longer than I'd hoped, but not too much so. I attribute it to getting used to the new guide (for dd 13 and for me). However, it was a great day! Keri did her Independent Bible Study and Inventor Study in her room, then came downstairs and gave me a great oral narration about James Watt-she seemed to be really interested in him-from the reading, he sounds a lot like her! At breakfast she led grace, praying for our school day to go smoothly

After breakfast she got cracking on the left side of Unit One Day One. She did great with the Independent History Study, as she voluntarily pointed out to me some interesting facts from the timeline in Hearts and Hands. She struggled a little with Reading about History, because I sent her to another room-she later told me she would rather I send her sister to another room, because when she is not at the table she doesn't feel like working hard. I agree with her because when she is reading anything other than science, it is her weakest area, so it's good for us to be in the same room-I'm glad she could assess herself that way! Her written narration was very good, though short the 10 sentences required-however her sentences and vocabulary are quite complex

I will post it below. The Timeline and State Study were a welcome break from reading with hands on activities (drawing, cutting and pasting). We followed that with Biblical Worldview, for which I read aloud and we discussed building on the solid Rock rather than shifting sand-she had some great insights! Dictation was great-I bumped her to a higher level than she had been doing at the end of last spring with CTC and it seems just the right challenge. After lunch, I set her to Math and Grammar, for which we are using our own programs, both independent. They are a perfect fit (she has trouble with Singapore because of the colored pages-she has a degree of colorblindness!). Both programs have a "cleaner" layout too, which seems to help her focus better. Last but not least came Science, which we couldn't finish because I didn't know I needed a hot glue gun

I will buy one this evening after hubby gets home and have her complete that part of the project early tomorrow

We haven't started DITHOR yet, because I wanted to ease into it and also I am waiting for requested books from the library. We will be doing Mystery. For Keri, I selected The Westing Game from the DITHOR booklist, both print and audio versions in case the reading gets overwhelming. Tamara will read The Egypt Game. We also did not do Storytime, but will add that in Friday. Today and for two more days, Tamara is just doing non-HOD independent stuff, so that Keri (and I) can get into a routine. It works out well because Tamara left off in spring after finishing CTC Unit One Day 3. So, even though they will be in different Unit numbers, at least they will be on the same day of the week (so I won't get confused, lol). I was also able to do some of MY schoolwork (online college program) without difficulty. I believe the Lord answered Keri's morning prayer
