My dd loves to paint, but last week's painting assignment did not go well (she was frustrated with herself, she just couldn't get her picture to look the way she wanted it), and this week she simply didn't want to paint. This was so sad...art is her favorite activity, and she'd been doing her schoolwork in a timely manner in order to get to the painting assignment.

My husband sat with her tonight and taught her about using water colors and doing a wash and they had so much fun.

My happy painter is back. Hurrah!

Dh knows how to paint. I don't have a clue. His assistance is so valuable to me!

How does your dh assist in your homeschooling?

Mine works quite a bit, so the biggest way he assists our homeschool is by providing the income for me to be able to buy curriculum, stay home, and teach. He also watches videos on the weekends or plays games with the kids that are specific to our history study. And he looks through their work in their notebooks and on my blog and says encouraging things to them. And every once in a very rare while, he takes a phone call from me to straighten out a wayward boy attitude.

My dh takes ds to guitar and sits through the lesson, takes him out for a soda and to the the library one night a week. They sit and talk about...well...guy stuff..memorizing and discussing Scripture, how school is going, what needs to improve, what growth we have seen in him. My dh is the princiPAL of our school. He keeps us all in line - some days (most days) I need that more than my ds. :wink

He also teaches my ds all the daily living stuff...like how to repair a broken sink, how to build things, how to change the oil in the car, how to care for the animals, how to care for the lawn. Whatever Dad is doing, he has two boys looking over his shoulder. The 12 yo is learning a lot...the 3 yo is ummm...well, you can imagine!!

Yes, because I work dh does assist with school. Right now he does preschool with our youngest and I am doing Beyond with our oldest, but he fills in some days. When oldest hits Bigger and youngest hits Little Hearts we are going to split them both. Dh will do math and handwriting with both, storytime and basic skills in Little Hearts and probably something else from Bigger. I don't have it totally figured out yet, but it is great to be joint teaching. The only problem is I want to do it all because they guides are so great.

My dh will fill in if I have an appointment and HOD makes that very easy. He also is great about asking at dinner what my ds learned and looking over his notebooking pages and giving praise. With my dd he has an even more active role in that he is the go to person for Physics and Algebra 2. He goes over anything she doesn't understand at night.

I run an at home daycare which prevents me from leaving my home. My husband on his days off will take our daughter to all of her 4H or Horse riding meetings, field trips, even doctor visits. I would be lost without him

My dh pays for lots of books and supplies with long hours! But he also oohs and aahs over art projects that need a lot of deciphering.

He discusses issues with me to help more sort out disobedience from immaturity from personality clashes.

I don't think toddlers and preschoolers are really his sweet spot, but I believe that he will contribute a LOT more as the kids get older. He already shares his extensive knowledge of classical music. (I never can even tell the composer, my dh knows which section of which piece it is.) He will be a good writing coach, a great high school level discussion leader in any of the liberal arts, and he will be an AWESOME speech coach. He is excellent at oral reporting, and has a ton of practice with presenting all kinds of information in all kinds of different settings. Plus, he can teach them things like power point where their mother is useless.

Oh, and I almost forget the most important thing - he leads morning and bedtime family prayer whenever he is home. Both of us are still learning about spiritual leadership of the children, but he does a lot better than I do! And his willingness to try sets a great tone in the house. He will probably do more family devotions/Bible as the kids get older and are more willing to answer questions.

My dh spends hours a week picking up our 16-year-old ballerina from lessons, which is a 20-mile drive, EACH WAY . He is teaching our 13-year-old piano, and is making himself available as math tutor on Fridays (he is so good at math; me, not so much ). He also works hard so we can buy what the girls need. He used to be a little iffy about me being a stay-at-home mom, but he is now my biggest supporter-he knows the girls are getting a great education and more importantly, a godly education.

My dh, bless his heart teaches all our math after the children finish the 3rd grade level. I am not good at math and this is such a blessing to me!

What a tremendous blessing these dh's are.

My dh has his own business and recently has a very flexible schedule that allows him to be home a lot. Sometimes he does dictation with my older son. Ds loves it when Daddy sits down and does his Independent history drawings with him. Ds actually said it's his favorite thing to do
My younger ds loves for Daddy to do his Reading Lesson with him. Dh enjoys learning this new phonics way of reading very much.
The two younger ones run to Daddy to show him all they did during school and give him all the work, that I want to store He used to take it to the office, so I'm glad the office is mostly at home now. The hoarder of school project speaking here
Dh is a great encourager to me and is so blessed that the children are learning so much about the Word of God, he totally allows me to get any curriculum and so far I have yet to get a budget He loves what the kids learn through HOD and on occasion he has been able to do a day of school with the kids and has enjoyed it.
Eventually if math and science get too much for me to teach, he may have to take over
So, really once again thanks be to Carrie, Julie and their families for having such a God centered curriculum that makes homeschooling a joy for my family.

Yea Dads!

My DH helps is so many ways. He has always helped by supplying money for our homeschooling needs and even some wants. He loves to do science with the kids, so we try to involve him in any experiments. Since last December, he's been helping in so many ways. While I've been in cancer treatments, he has been doing any boxes that have been left "unchecked" for the day. Boy do I love that guy!

Thanks HOD for making it easy for my hubby and soon my MIL to do the kids schooling!

My husband was homeschooled, so, obviously, he's very supportive. He works two jobs so that I can stay home and teach the girls. He also brings home interesting things that he finds while he's out. One day it was a bird that had gotten overheated. He rescued it from the airport runway and brought it home in a box. He's also pointing out lizards and interesting bugs to the girls all the time. He also brings home Science books every now and then to read to them, and has them watch documentaries with him. I guess you could say he's my supplemental Science curriculum. LOL He really enjoys it, and he's passed on that love of Science and nature to our girls. He would prefer to never put them in regular school, so he goes the extra mile to make sure it doesn't happen. I'm very grateful to have him as a partner in this.
