New Here with questions

Post by mommyto6 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 5:41 pm

Hi :D ,

I'm new to posting to this board, but I have been reading for a while. My name is Holly & I have 6 dc ages 5,4,3,2,1 & 1. I'm hoping you ladies can give me some advice on my situation. I recently ordered LHTH & LHFHG for my dc with the intent to do LHFHG for my 4 & 5 yr old and LHTH with my 2 & 3 yr old. My style of homeschooling up until this point has been VERY relaxed. Currently we're using Explode the code(4&5 yr old) & Get ready for the code(3 yr old) along with miscellaneous math workbooks. My 4 & 5 yr old are reading CVC words & some sight words. My 3 yr old knows all his letters by sight & sound.
So following is my dilemma: I'm having a difficult time balancing both books right now & fitting everything in (I also have 1 yr old twins). I'd like to just use 1 right now. What I'm thinking is doing LHTH for all 4 of them & letting them continue with ETC & adding Singapore for the 4 & 5 yr old. I will then start LHFHG in the fall with my then 4,5,6 yr olds & continue LHTH with the 2 yr old. Do you all think that this will work or will LHTH be too slow for my 4 & 5 yr old?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the boards. I would say to try LHTH with all of your kids. You'll know if the 5yo needs more or if it's enough. If you do LHTH with all of them this year, then you could repeat LHTH with the littles next year and do LHFHG with the olders who would then be 5 and 6 right. That fits right into the age ranges.

Just my opinion, others will soon chime in.

we did the code books, too! :-)
I would also put them all into LHTH and maybe expand with the older ones a bit if they seem like they need it. With them that close in age, I would personally think it would be a lot less fuss for YOU to keep them all together! :-)

mommyto6,

I think your plan souns right! Try them all in Little Hands..., and see what you think. If you need to add a little more phonics and math for your oldest, you can quite easily.

Then, you could move your 2 or 3 oldest into "Little Hearts..." the following year. It makes sense to keep the 3 oldest together, since they are so close in age. It is often fairly easy to keep kiddos that are close in age together for history and science, and then have them have "their own" level of language arts and math. That is how our guides are designed!

Blessings,
Carrie
