Type of clay & watercolor paints used in Preparing

Post by abrightmom » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:34 pm

When a project or activity calls for clay what are you using?? It sounds like something MORE than playdough  .

What type of watercolor paints? I assume Carrie is not referring to the cheap-o Crayola water color paints in the school supply section?

Links, brand names, retailers, etc. would really help me out. I am making a trip to Michael's this week.

Thanks from a Craft Supply Impaired Mama!

I am not sure what Carrie recommended in Preparing, but for CTC, she recommended watercolor paints in tubes. Michael's has a set of 12 student grade watercolor tubes for $5. That's what we just bought. they also had a set of student paint brushes next to the tubes for $5. The set had 12 of the 14 recommended colors and our ds can blend the other two.

for clay, we just use modeling clay in various colors, it's in the kids crafts section at Walmart and Michaels.
Hope that helps.

I took a look in the intro to Preparing she doesn't specify any art supplies,
My dd is on unit 3 and the tray water colors paints have been fine for her projects so far.
her tray looks like this

She usually specifies air dry clay, I think so we can have keepsakes of our kiddos projects. Plasticine will not look the same 20 years from now :-)

I've never used the crayola stuff...

But since we have piles of that bake-able clay we are using that up first before buying more.

We use the Crayola air dry clay and it has always worked fine. Some of the projects had recipes for the clay. When it did, we used those....but if it didn't specify, we used the crayola air dry---or the plain colored clay (like from walmart), depending on the project.

On the water colors, I am pretty sure we just used the cheaper (crayola) paints in the plastic rectangular box for Preparing. (When we got to CtC, we used "real" water color paints in the tubes).
