Hi,
This is our first week with BLHFHG and we are doing Singapore 1A/B. I purchased the textbooks and HIG's on top of the workbooks. While we are doing the hands-on activities published in HOD, I'm also using the additional activities in the HIG. One thing I noticed is that the HIG mentions that it's very important for students to learn the number bonds up to 10. My question is this: Did any of you spend extra time just on number bonds? We did the intro on Friday, with the whole carrot/cabbage patch/bunny activity along with using Lego block sets. I'm just wondering if I should just continue on with the published workbook pages in HOD, or follow the suggestions of Singapore and spend some extra time on cementing number bonds. We are liking Singapore and plan to stick with in long-term, so I'd like to do what's best for my child as far as cementing the number bonds concept and not skip extra practice just because it's not published to do it in HOD. Any suggestions or experiences?
Thanks,
Rhyah
Singapore Number Bonds
Re: Singapore Number Bonds
I have used Singapore before I ever found HOD and do love it. Since I wasn't using HOD, I used the Singapore textbooks too, which reinforces what Carrie has in the guides.
We are now in 3rd and 6th grade for math! Number bonds continue throughout the grades and for my son he grasped the concept fairly quickly. My daughter didn't get it right away, so I did use extra practice with them for her during 1st and 2nd grade. She is now in 3rd and we are still working on it some.
I hope that helps some.

Re: Singapore Number Bonds
Yes, thank you. It seems to be the concensus around the web that it's important to really get the number bonds down so students don't struggle with future work. I'm really grateful I went ahead and purchased the home instructor's guide, even though most people said it wasn't needed, because it has many more ideas for practice that I'll use this week.
