Timeline ?
Timeline ?
We are getting ready to start Beyond next week and my girls and I are all very excited!
I do have a quick question about the timeline that we are supposed to make, though.
Is it supposed to be done on a standard piece of printer paper - or something larger?
(My girls tend to write fairly large, and so I'm not sure they could make a drawing and write a caption in a tiny box)
I was wondering if I should use legal size paper or tagboard?

Re: Timeline ?
Such fun ahead of you -we loved Beyond! We used a 12 x 18 piece of paper. Here is a link to the timeline we made, in case it is helpful...

Re: Timeline ?
Thank you, Julie! That is very helpful!
I think I will get a sheet of tagboard and maybe cut it down (one for each girl) to that size.

Re: Timeline ?
You can see our timelines here. I followed Julie's instructions and they worked very well for us. You are going to love Beyond. It's just so much fun.

Re: Timeline ?
Well - we decided to go with legal size file folders. They are nice and sturdy, and I think they look like a very 'manageable' size.
Right now I still need to write out the words for my 6 year old - but my 8 yr old was able to fit everything in hers just fine.

Re: Timeline ?
We did ours today. We chose to go with a poster board. It allowed me to create larger columns and rows to accommodate her drawings and handwriting. I write what she needs on an index card and she copies it. We got a long piece of Velcro and our keeping ours up on the wall, and when we need to work on it we just unvelcro it. She really loved creating a big version.
Re: Timeline ?
We did ours today and it was just on copy paper, but the box was too small for her to write it so I had to. This weekend I am going to make a poster paper size one and have her redraw her two entries on that so she can write the words herself.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

Re: Timeline ?
All good ideas! I love that our dc are making their own timelines and truly able to get creative with them. It lets them show their individual personalities and express their own creativity. It's neat to see that while the organizational format of my different dc's timelines are similar (rows, columns, etc.), each of their actual timelines look quite different from one another's. I would have loved doing timelines if we'd done them this way in school. Simply memorizing dates, sticking on a sticker, or looking at a canned timeline that's really someone else's work (which was MY experience with timelines back in ps) was just was pretty blah. My dc love to hold up their timelines for pictures, and they look back on them with fondness because they are THEIR creations. Love it! Have fun seeing your dc's timelines grow!
