Anyone here affected by the earthquake?

Post by Kims » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:36 pm

Just wondering who/how to pray.
I did not feel it here in NE TN but I do have friends that did here. I have friends in several other states that felt it. Praying all is well and this is the end of it.

We felt it here in southern PA. I didn't feel a thing but my kids did. Nothing major, just enough to say, "that was an earthquake, how cool!". Epicenter was in the Richmond area of VA and friends of ours down there said they definitely felt it but it wasn't enough to do any kind of major damage. Just praying that was the last of it, kwim? Thankful it was so mild.

We are very close to the epicenter of the quake and felt it quite a bit. It was a little scary as this was only the second earthquake I have ever felt, but at least this time I knew exactly what it was :D Everything is okay here now and no damage.

We are very close to the epicenter, as well. It was amazing. A deep rumble in the earth and a whole lot of shaking in the house. The children all stopped what they were doing and we met in the front of the house. Wouldn't you know my 12 yo was just getting ready to read his Bible reading from PHFHG to me - Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything..." Divine timing, wouldn't you say?!

People were talking about it on facebook today. I live in NC, and apparently, people felt it here! I had the spin cycle on the washing machine, which shakes the whole house, so I have no idea if we felt it or not! Around 2pm, my nine-year-old was at the kitchen table with her Math saying, "The whole table is shaking."

My husband is traveling on business and he is in Harrisonburg, VA - very close to the epicenter.

I didn't hear from him for several hours so I was a little worried, but then he called and said all is well. He was in a meeting when it happened and said no one knew what it was at first and then surprise gave way to total shock. Thankfully there was very little damage to his office - other than pictures/whiteboards/etc falling off walls.

I am in NC and we didn't feel anything, but friends close by did. My mother and brother live in Northern VA and my mom was very stressed out by it..it really scared her. My aunt in MD felt it as well.

My hubby is also traveling on business in Alexandria, VA. He said they could feel it in the building he was in. For a moment no one knew what was happening and he wondered if it was a tornado but when he looked outside it was sunny and clear. Then they finally realized it was an earthquake. There was no damage where he was at. Praise the Lord it wasn't a bad one.

Here in Connecticut, lots of people felt it! Although we didn't here at home. My husband was driving so he didn't feel anything either. But people in the next town or two over have stories of feeling dizzy and looking out the window and seeing their car rocking and the coffee in the pot swaying or feeling their chairs moving, etc. Offices were evacuated in Hartford. Pretty wild for the Northeast.
