Hi,
I think I will be using Beyond with my DD6 for 1st Grade. She is currently working through The Reading Lesson and I really think that next year when she starts Beyond/Gr 1 it would be good for her to have some phonic/writing type workbooks to go along with her reading. I quite like the workbooks that go along with Reading Made Easy but when I showed her the RME manual (I had borrowed it from a friend) she freaked out at the busy pages and was NOT going to do a reading lesson from ,"That book that is too crazy with words all over the place!" (makes me feel better for choosing TRL for her!). So, now I am thinking about using the RME workbooks with TRL, trying to match them up as best as I can. Has anyone done this? Or is there another workbook series that you are using instead that you'd like to share with me?
Using TRL with the RME workbooks... or ???
Re: Using TRL with the RME workbooks... or ???
We use Explode the Code with TRL. We do the primer books (A, B, and C) before staring TRL. Well, with my 4yo, we started TRL in the middle of book B. And before we even start ETC we learn the vowel sounds, so by the time we start TRL, the first lesson or so is very easy for them. I don't worry at all about making them match up. My second son was in book 4 towards the end of TRL last year. Book 4 is the beginning of 2nd grade level work and TRL ends with the kids reading at a 2nd grade level, so a good goal would be to finish books 1,2 & 3 while using TRL. Make sense?

Yes, MJ, that does make good sense to me. Thankyou so much for that! I will go and have a good look at the earlier ETC books.
