book levels for 2-3 DITHOR books

Post by rod_squad » Wed Aug 10, 2011 10:37 pm

Hi there. I was looking at the books and levels seem advanced. I got the level 2-3 but when i looked up the levels of the books, they are all levels 3 and 4s. My dd is just out of the emergent readers but i fear she will be overwhelmed. Thoughts??

In the middle of the Emerging Reader's Set, around "Prairie School", dc transition into reading Level 4 books. "The Courage of Sarah Noble", which is the last title in the ERS, is a Level 4.4 book. The Level 2 DITHOR book pack ranges from Level 3.0 - 4.1. So dc who have read the ERS should be well prepared and ready for the DITHOR Level 2 book pack. :D You can see the individual reading levels for each book in the Level 2 Book Pack at this link...

I remember thinking that the books looked more difficult too, but each of our sons did just fine with them. :D You can always begin DITHOR half-speed, if you would like to spread out the number of pages a child reads each day. For example, let's say a book has 60 pages (for easy figuring  ). 60 pages divided by 15 days of reading = 4 pages of reading each day. You could have your dd just read 2 pages one day, and then the next day she could read her other 2 pages and you'd do the DITHOR lesson with her. I really do think you'll find she's ready for the reading though, if she did well with the ERS. If anything, it may be the writing in the Student Book she needs more time to grow into. HTH! :D

Thank you!! I had her read Sarah Noble as an indicator and she read beautifully. I never thought to look at the level and am surprised its a 4! She must be good! Thanks again! Wish me luck, we start next week! :)
