We are new to HOD and I just got my Preparing Teacher's Manual. I'd love to hear(or read) how you schedule your day. Bible first, then math, etc.
Would you mind sharing your schedule?
Blessings,

Preparing..order of your day
Re: Preparing..order of your day
I am starting in the fall and am working on my schedule to do Preparing, LHFHG and LHTH for the coming year. Don't know if you have looked at this sticky that has many schedules on it. As you start you will notice how to tweak your schedule to find out what works best for your dc.

Re: Preparing..order of your day
Hi,
I assume the order of your day will depend on how many students you have and which level they are working at. I have one student doing their independent work while I am doing the teacher directed with the other and vice versa.
In saying that, most of the left side of the manual depends on the main history reading so I always do that first, then we will do story time, and other history reading based activities (geography, art, timeline, vocab, research). The Language Arts side of the manual can be done in any order which suits your family schedule.
HTH,
Corrie

Re: Preparing..order of your day
I just looked up my PHFHG schedule I used with Wyatt a few years back, and this was the order we used...
"Dictation" at dining room table with me
"Bible study" on couch with me
"Bible Music" in kitchen by CD player with me
"R & S English" at dining room table with me
30 minute play break with little brother in playroom
"Reading about History" and "Storytime" box with me on couch
Rotating box for history at dining room table (Research, Vocab., Geography, or Timeline) starts with me, finishes on own
"History Project" in kitchen or at dining room table, starts with me, finishes on own
"Independent History Study" box wherever he wants, on his own, if dawdling - I pick place and set timer
"Math" teacher portion at dining room table with me, oversee independent portion to be sure he's getting it, help him by doing example again from lesson alongside him if he's confused
"DITHOR" or "Creative Writing" lesson, at couch and then at dining room table, with me first, independently finish
"Science" box independently, read on couch, experiment in kitchen, seatwork in dining room
"Poetry" with all at lunch at table
I liked having the LA portions separated, doing some first, some in the middle, and some at end. I liked him having a short play break in his morning, and his younger brother liked it too. I also liked having all of the history plans done in a row, as it helped my ds make meaningful connections. I liked having him end with finishing out his DITHOR/writing and his science so I could get lunch together, and then we enjoyed at that stage in our lives doing poetry all together during lunch. These are just ideas, but maybe they can act as a sounding board for you as you plan your day. Here is a link with the time allotments for PHFHG too:
PHFHG time it takes:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4244&p=31219#p31219
I always start with the time allotments and then make an order of the boxes along with time increments. I hope something her helps! Have fun setting up your routine!
In Christ,
Julie

Re: Preparing..order of your day
Hi,
As everyone mentioned ea person finds their own groove. Ours has changed as we have changed and grown in understanding of HOD this year. I am usually not fully available right away in the ams around here, so we have it set up for my ds to begin his day independently. I can interrupt him though whenever I am ready to work w him and he will just set whatever he is doing to the side and come back to it later. Keep in mind my son is 11, so he does more independently than if he was 9 or so.
He begins his day w the scripture cd, studying.
Then he usually goes to independent history and or science from there.
Somewhere in here I am ready.
We will begin w bible study, then do dictation.
I might squeeze in poetry here too.
While I am busy here again (i have two youngers)
He finnishes i.h. and science.
He usually begins reading history and/or storytime.
He also works on his dithor here too.
For all of these I am available to do narrations or if he has questions.
If he needs to do a written narration or if he is doing the five questions in science, I will have him save those for our later meeting.
In our "meeting time" we do:
English
Math, if neccessary
Any written assignments: creative writing, narrations, science, etc.
Rotating box is usually independent, but now is when I check up and do my part.
Sometimes, if he requests, he can do the project in morning time. But that is usually his last thing to work on.
The rest of the day he finishes whatever isnt done.

Hope that helps a lil.

Re: Preparing..order of your day
I am also working on a schedule for Preparing (besides LHTH and LHFHG with my 2 younger ones), which we are starting half pace in August for a few weeks, than perhaps going to 5 times a week to transition into full pace when he is ready. He is on the younger side, but has finished all previous guides.
This is so far what I've come up with:
Music T/Th
Cursive daily (finishing up from Bigger, we had a bump in the road with his HW)
Study Dictation M/W/Th
With Mom
Dictation M/W/Th
History M/W
Rotating Box M/W
Story time M/W
Bible T/Th
History Project T/Th
Poetry T/Th
Grammar T/Th
Recess/snack
With Mom
Math Daily
Mom to standby in the beginning while I prepare lunch
Independent History M/W
Independent Science T/Th
Lunch (story time from LHFHG, all my kids love the TB books and my middle ds does not mind his siblings enjoying the readings with us)
With Mom
Grammar M/W
DITHOR M/W/Th
After devotions and chores we will start with Preparing at 8:45 to be done by 2:00. Between those times he also has play time with his brother and a block of piano practice.
Of course as we start we will tweak till the flow is perfect

Re: Preparing..order of your day
I've been working through "Preparing" schedule for my 2 boys as well. We're planning on starting in just a week and a half. It's my first time ever using HOD for them and I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to it! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. Our schedule is different than the ones shared here, but it seems like each family needs to do what "works" for their situation. This board has been a wealth of information and just wanted to express my appreciation to each lady here who contributes. For us "newbies", we depend on you so much. Thank you!!!
