singapore math-does it cover geometry concepts

Post by sully » Thu Jun 30, 2011 1:06 pm

hi--I used 3A and 3b last year and then had my 9 year olds placement test for a different program. They did great on basic math computation but did not know any geometry concepts or much measuring. Does Singapore cover this in higher grades-i am thinking a sticking with the singapore but i don't want them to miss concepts.
thanks

Yes, Singapore math covers measurement and geometry well. :D Here is a link to the Scope and Sequence of Singapore's Primary U.S. edition. It is detailed, so it will take a bit to load. It specifically shows each skill set and when it is covered in each of the grades. :)

Length, weight, mass, capacity is the measurement skill set. It is covered in 1A, 2A, 2B, quite a bit in 3B, 4B, 5A, and 5B. Geometry had some lessons in 2B, and some in 3B. It will be covered 4A, 4B, quite extensively in 5B, as well as in 6A and 6B. Not to mention, these skills are used within multi-step story problems as well. :D HTH!
