led back to hod-anyone ever do preparing with 12yr old

Post by sully » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:29 pm

i have tried hod two time and have quit both times. i am feeling led back once again to HOD and really want to make it work. I have twin 9 year old which i would place in preparing an d they will do fine. my dilemna is my 12 year old. She has a variety of emotional issues and does not do so well on her own when the issue of sin and God comes up. She is extremely sensitive, has anxiety disorder as well as obsessive compulsive disorder. For this reason, she would not do well on her own for bible or history when it is in a biblical context. I am considering having her do a completely different program but i just was thinking that maybe having her do the preparing with the extension would work. She would then be with me and the 9 year olds for history and bible and would do her own grade level for the rest of her work. I think she would do fine with the extension books. I am just wondering if anyone has ever done preparing with a 12 year old. thanks for any feedback

I havent actually done Preparing or Even HOD (im using it this year) but i think it would be fine from the perspective of the age, b/c it says "extending to 11-12" so i think it should be fine.

But I'm sure someone on here will be of better help, but just thought id say that :D

I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles that your daughter is having.

Yes, I think Preparing would be great for a 12 year old. The books are so enjoyable that I enjoy them as much as my kids!!! I don't believe that it would be too young for her.

As far as her placement goes skill-wise, I think you need to do what is best for your daughter and these special needs that she has. You know her better than anyone, and you know what she can and cannot handle. And if you think she needs to be in Preparing so she can school alongside you, then do it.

I say this with the highest, highest regard for everyone on this board....YOU know your child best, not us.

I think you all are going to do GREAT!! I think you'll love Preparing. It is so fun, and the book choices are outstanding.

All the best to you!!

Welcome to the HOD Board, Sully! :D This board is full of the most encouraging, helpful ladies - it is one of my favorite places to come. I think you will find such wisdom and inspiration here. PHFHG was one of our very favorite HOD years, though we have enjoyed all of them. I think doing PHFHG with your 9 yo twins and using the extensions for your 12 yo will be a good idea. :D When we did PHFHG with my oldest ds, it was a year of such growth in his faith and in Godly character traits. "Grandpa's Box" is an incredible book. I think you will love PHFHG! :D
