Hi there, I am new to both Homeschooling and to HOD. I have three boys (ages 6, 3, and 8mth). I will be using Beyond little hearts for His glory in Sept. for my 6yr old and I am looking to connect with other mommas also using this curriculum. We live in Ontario and would love to chat regarding scheduling, Canadian history etc. We are very excited to begin, my oldest currently attends a Christian school but really would like to homeschool so the adventure is about to begin . We have many friends who homeschool but no one who is using this program so I am eager to chat with others who have had experience with this program. take care and God bless.

Re: Canadians using HOD
Hi,
We're in Alberta.
I am using parts of Beyond for my 6 year old starting this August. I'm planning on adding in some of Donna Ward's curriculum and have bought the Scholastic Canadian Biographies series to read and the Scholastic Canadian Animals series to add in to Science. We will also be looking at the Kids Book of Canada. I'm hoping to go through the guide next month (We finish school up at the end of May) and sub in some Canadian history. Maybe we can work together to come up with a plan to add in some Canadian stuff to the curriculum?

Re: Canadians using HOD
this book is on the baldwin project (might be out of print if it is there)
Canada from the Peeps at History Series, by Beatrice Home, London: Adam and Charles Black, First Published 1911.
The baldwin project has lots of the books Carrie has chosen. It might be worth a pre-read I have not read it.
I still in awe.. it was published 100 years ago (wow) its a bit closer to the time period.
Hope that helps

Re: Canadians using HOD
Thanks for your feedback. I would love to keep in touch regarding Canadian History. Donna Ward is great! I just found out about her at the curriculum fair I went to. My email is jsteinracing@yahoo.ca if you wanted to email me privately. I can't wait for the curriculum to arrive in the mail......I have been searching for so long on line..it will be nice to actually go through it personnaly. From what I have seen on line, this program is so well laid out and fun as well. thanks again for your feedback.
Re: Canadians using HOD
Hi Renee,
Welcome to HOD. I'm a Canadian Mom too. We just completed Beyond with my oldest. I didn't add any Canadian history to Beyond, but for the spring and summer we are learning some Canadian history that corresponds with the timeline in Beyond. We are learning about native Canadians now along with Jacques Cartier, followed by Champlain, the Acadians, etc. We are making a timeline similar to the one in Beyond and are learning about Canadian animals, weather, etc. We talked a bit about the scurvy that early explorers suffered with and focused a bit on nutrition. We also made snowshoes to replicate how the natives traveled through the snow. I've challenged myself to use only resources from the library as I want to use my homeschooling money for HOD. It is definitely not as easy as HOD. Researching and previewing each book before reading it to my dc is a must for me and I have great respect for the time and energy Carrie and Julie put in to their research for HOD. Eventually I'm planning to post a list of the resources we're using on my blog. I'm still in the process of putting my list together as I come across more and more books.
FWIW, Beyond is wonderful as is ... even for Canadians. My oldest and I enjoyed the American history greatly and are looking forward to Bigger in the fall!
