My next question is....Which devotional for a 5yo?

Post by 7mommy » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:41 pm

The bookstore near me carries the Playtime devotionals, but it looks a bit young. I was thinking of going with the Big Thoughts for Little People book. Can someone tell me the difference between that book and the ABC Bible Verses book?

We have and use both of these devotionals: Big Thoughts and My ABC...

I think for a five year old I would go with My ABC Bible verses.

It is hard to describe the differences between the two- although they are very different!

The Big Thoughts has detailed, "soft" illustrations where children can find things like ladybugs and items beginning with the featured letter. There is less text to read. There are questions to answer and a scripture to memorize or just "focus" on. The topics are very relevant: L is for Lying, M is for Messy, J is for Joyful, etc. The devotion is based on a discussion of the picture... which illustrates the concept and is underscored by the bible verse.

My ABC Bible Verses has more text and less illustrations. The scriptures are very powerful and to the point: E- Even a child is known by His deeds.
The devotion is based on the story that flows from the Scripture verse.

They are both great!

I hope this helps,
Rebecca

You've gotten some great advice already here, but I just wanted to concur that either the ABC or the Big Thoughts... devotionals would work great for a 5 year old. It's probably personal preference between those two.

Thanks for your help.
I did see that on Amazon, they had excerpts of both books and I liked the ABC book a bit better.
I think he would find it more interesting. We'll see how it goes.
I got my LHTH today and I am so excited!!
