Hi Ladies,
I am trying to plan my eldest's curriculum for the next couple of years, who unfortunately will miss all the HOD high school guides . The Story of US books by Joy Hakim turn up in tons of US History homeschool courses, and I was pondering on using them to supplement Rev to Rev, my dd will be 17 or 18 at the time. She's expressed some interest in reading them.
However I've never read them and am having trouble getting one from the library to look at. I know they aren't particularly Christian in nature. The reviews for them are mixed. That's about all I know. Any opinions or knowledge about them would be appreciated!

Re: Opinions on The Story of US books
About to go to bed, but just a quick note to say that I think they would be on the young side for that age group. My ds read them this year (he's 12). While he liked the storybook format, and learned a lot from them, he also rolled his eyes at some of the writing style. For instance, they have the kids climb on their magic carpet to go back and visit the Native Americans (or maybe it was in their time machine--I can't remember and the books are packed from our move ). He thought those parts were a bit hokey. They also aren't as in depth as I would want for a 17 or 18 year old, although they might make an interesting lighter read.

I agree with mamas4bugs. I am reading them myself, my library has 2 of the 10, they are interesting and unbiased. They are a light read and may not go in depth enough for a 17-18 year old.
