What say ye? ;)

Post by Mom2Monkeys » Sat Apr 30, 2011 9:44 am

So, I've been contemplating placement as you'll see if you search my recent posts. Would you wonderful, wise ladies please take a peek at my blog link and tell me your thoughts about what to do with my DS7??

It may help (or confuse) to look at some of my precious placement ramblings.

All I can say Tamara, is that he did a better job of that than my ds did when he did that assignment at the first of this year. I ended up having to have my ds redo his. I would say that your ds did an excellent job! If the notebooking was your only concern for Bigger, then I would say he is ready. :D

I thought he wouldn't be able to copy the drawings or do copywork....writing overall was my biggest concern. The sheer amount of it and feeling not only his stamina, but also his frustration with trying to get it done neatly and in a timely manner. This page took less time than my DD took when she did it, though hers was more "perfected" ;) I had a few other concerns but they are starting to fade. :) I know he is SOLID on the skills for Beyond, and I didn't want to put him in Bigger just yet if I'd have to let him "grow into" skills, but am willing to let him start it if he only needs to "grow into" the speed at which he does those skills, etc.

JULIE!! Help! LOL You've been following my craziness.

Ok, unless someone tells me differently ;) I will be starting him half-pace in BHFHG using the spelling words list. He asked to start today because he wants to do math and "art" (the notebooking!). He's still in public school and said he doesn't care, he just wants to do it! LOL Gotta love that excitement! Just have to decide on DD's dictation level and check our basic supplies and wait for time to start!

He can't wait to be back home...he's not the kid excited for summer to be away from school...he's the one excited for summer so he can be at home with us and start homeschooling again! I plan to do half-speed 4 days per week August-March (meaning we'll only get about 12-14 units in) If we go visit my family in Florida then we'll go only two weeks into April, which is still great! Then we will finish it in 3rd grade. I'm in no rush to finish it and since we'll go half speed just a couple weeks to start in 3rd grade and take the rest full speed, I don't mind not getting far into it. With our busy weeks due to therapy, and the fact sister will only have 4 day weeks, it works out well :) We'll have the wonderful springtime totally free instead of hot months! DD only has 31 units of PHFHG to do and I'll keep them on the same schedule.

I'm getting excited as our plan unfolds clearly!!

WOW, Tamara! I just saw this, and a picture is worth a thousand words! :D His writing and drawing looks very neat, and it sounds like it didn't take him all that long, nor did he need you hovering over him. Yeah, I think he's ready for half-speed BHFHG. Thanks for sharing this, and it looks like you have a good plan in place for your sweeties now. HOORAY! :D :D :D

Julie, you have no idea how happy I am to get your "approval" as well. Lol. :) you're right....I gave him the supplies, told him what to do, and cleaned in the kitchen while he sat in the dining room completing the page. He did it in less than the allotted time and needed no reminders or warnings about being on task. He even was able to explain the pictures to me. Drawing it himself really helped him understand the concept of the rides better bc as he noticed details he needed to draw, he had all these lightbulb moments. He was very excited :)
I am wonderfully thrilled to have a plan in place and feel like I can breathe again. Ahhhhhh...such peace. Now to get through this semester of public school for him, gather supplies and clean up the school room, then enjoy our summer together knowing it's all planned and waiting for us! feels so good to be coming back home to HOD!!!

Did you happen to see my post about planning half speed? I think ice for it figured out but wondering what you think since you've done it before??
