Ignight Your Writing
Ignight Your Writing
Is this incorporated into the Lesson Plans of Prepare or DITHOR or will this be covered starting in CtC? Should I start this in Prepare?

Re: Ignight Your Writing
CTC uses Write with the best. I just picked up Ignighting your writing to use with Bigger once a week. I may be wrong on that, it may be Preparing that uses Write with the best. I think it's an optional thing because some people use DITHOR without the other manuals. I am using it with my oldest son who will be 9. We haven't started yet though.

I will be using DITHOR with Prepare. Will using Ignite your writing be to much?

Re: Ignight Your Writing
Igniting your Writing is more for those only doing DITHOR without a full program. The other time you might use it is if you are not doing Rod and Staff English. We used it during Preparing because we were not using Rod and Staff at that point. If you are using Rod and Staff that plus the writing assignments in Preparing are plenty.

Thanks Lynn! I will most likely not do ignite then since I know she will be doing a lot of writing with prepare and DITHOR.

Re: Ignight Your Writing
I thought Ignighting your Writing was used in leu of Write with the Best, that you could choose?
Preparing uses writing through Poetry that Carrie created, not IYW. So you don't need it as Carrie has writing in Preparing.
I've been known to be wrong though.
But I use Preparing and don't see it.

Re: Ignight Your Writing
I saw the ignite stuff when going through the R & S section on their website so that's why I was wondering.

Re: Ignight Your Writing
"Igniting Your Writing" is carried by HOD so those families who only use DITHOR can add IYW to it for the writing portion of LA. Some moms also add IYW if they have an older child doing a younger HOD guide and need to extend the writing. In PHFHG, LA is covered in a very well-rounded, balanced way already, and there is no need to add more to it.
Written narrations are taught within the history box each week. Editing tips along with this are taught as well. Creative writing lessons are taught within the RLS Poetry, and they are excellent preparation for CTC's descriptive writing the following year. CM skills of oral narration are also taught within the history, storytime, and science boxes every week. Dictation, copywork, and notebooking in both science and history along with R & S English which also includes more step-by-step writing instruction are included as well. Then there is the writing that is required in other areas throughout the day (i.e. science lab sheets, etc.). This is a very full LA guide already, and the balance of writing is carefully chosen to teach specific skills that are built upon the following year. We have loved the balance of writing in the HOD guides from year to year, as it keeps our dc growing in their writing skills, but also keeps them from being overloaded by doing too much. By doing what's in the PHFHG, your dc will have well-rounded writing skills they can put their full effort into and therefore reap the full benefit of learning them well and being ready for the following year. Unless you have a much older child doing PHFHG, I wouldn't add more writing to it, and if you have a much older child needing writing added to it, that child may very well just be better placed in a higher HOD guide. I just thought I'd explain the thought that goes into the LA balance within HOD guides, as I believe it is a rare thing in guides these days - the idea of carefully balancing LA in the day to day, in the week to week, in the year to year, from guide to guide - that kind of planning is pretty amazing. HTH!
