New to HOD with curriculum ??'s

Post by Kriswelch16 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:44 am

Hi there! First I have to admit that I had never even heard of this curriculum until this morning. But, when I ran across a blog talking about HOD I was immediately interested. I am looking for a curriculum for my 4 1/2year old who is ready to read, write and learn! She has an older sister who will be in 1st grade this fall. We have been using Konos Unit studies, as well as Math-U-See, and a mixture of SWR, Explode the code and All About Reading for phonics. I plan on using this programs still this coming year, but wanted something a little more straghtforward for my Pre-K; more planned out and challenging for her and something I could also use with my particular curriculum. That being said, what does HOD require in terms of suppliments for subjects? Any advice on this is so much appreciated!

Hi and welcome to HOD, Kriswelch16!!! :D

I would recommend that you take a peek at HOD's placement chart for your child-- http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php -- and then get back to us so we can better help you. Correct placement is really key when using HOD and there are tons of lovely ladies on this board that would love to help you figure out the best fit for your child! Looking forward to hearing back from you! :D

and dont place just on age....really looks at the skills needed and or will be taught. That is what helped me most.

Thank you! I feel like she is ready for Little Hearts for His Glory. She is ready for phonics, ready to write and love numbers.

Great! You could possibly use LHFHG with both of them and just add in the first grade options for your older daughter. It is a really fun program. We will be finishing it up in a few months.

It sounds like you found a good fit for your dd with LHFHG! :D I think you could also easily use this with your 6 yo, only with the first grade options. This would be a great way to combine the 2 of them and yet have their LA/math on their own level. We loved LHFHG - such a fun guide to do! There is no need to supplement - it is all right there. The only thing I would do is add the Emerging Reader's Set, spelling lists/lessons, and hands-on math lessons from Beyond Little Hearts for your 6 yo, if she is ready for those things. This board is such a wonderful place to meet neat Christian ladies and get good solid advice! I'll look forward to getting to know you here. :D
