Anyone not purchased the ERS?
Anyone not purchased the ERS?
We are a little tight on money, and while I would absolutely LOVE to buy the ERS for my daughter to use in LHFHG this upcoming school year, I could save some money by just checking them out at the library. I've already looked at their online catalog and they have all of them but "Tornado," "Little House Animal Adventures," and the bibles, but we already own "The Beginner's Bible." I could get the two they are missing for now and I would buy the rest later on, but do you think it would be better to go ahead and get the whole set now to have as our own, or could we utilize the library for now?

We are planning to check them out at the library as well. Our library has most of them too!

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I don't have a good library nearby so we purchase all the book packs (ERS and DITHOR). It's nice for me to know they will be there when we need them. You could definitely get by with the library if you needed to though!

I think either way is fine. I already owned a few of them when we started, and the rest I picked up at thrift stores throughout the year. I did end up buying a couple new because I hadn't found them yet. I think the library is fine to, I just figured I may as well own them since I'll need to use them 4 times.

If your library has them and you can reserve them when you need them, I think this would be great. My library isn't that well stocked, and sometimes I end up on a waiting list so I can't get what I want when I want it. Most of those books, you will only need for a few weeks at a time so if you have a good library that carries those books then I think it would be doable. It will be a bit more effort for you, but certainly workable.

Re: Anyone not purchased the ERS?
We have 3 library branches in our county. Some of the books are available in more than one library, so I'm sure I can get those without having to wait. I purchased a couple that may be harder to get. I don't feel I need to buy them all, since dd is my only one who will use them. If I had other dc coming along, I would buy them. If you don't have the money now, use the library as much as you can. If you want to buy them later for your other dc, you can. It's your choice.

Re: Anyone not purchased the ERS?
I owned several of the books before we decided on HOD, so we had planned to use the library for the ER titles that we did not already own. Of all the books, the only one we could not get at the library was the Nature Reader, so we purchased that one.
We have a large library system and can reserve titles easily. It has taken some effort to request them at the right time and go pick them up, but it's been manageable, since we usually visit the library a couple of times a month anyway.
That being said, my ds has really enjoyed all the books so far... so I'm thinking about purchasing the last few that we don't have instead of requesting them through the library. My younger child will be able to use them in a couple of years.
So, to answer your question, YES, you could begin with using the library.

Re: Anyone not purchased the ERS?
I bought the ones my library didn't have. Our library charges $2.25 for interlibrary loan so it is more economical for me to buy them then have to interlibrary loan them and I don't want to feel like I have to rush my kids through a book since interlibrary loan books can't be renewed. I would use the library as much as you can.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!
