Unit 27, Day 1, 2 & 3... Stained Glass Window. I don't get it.
For day one, are we supposed to color the white paper that is around the arched window with black? It says, "color the outside of the window in heavy black crayon". Huh? Then to outline the design in black too.
Day 2 says to draw pencil lines to divide design into pieces. So if we're supposed to divide the design into pieces, aren't we just cutting out the design? But then why did we outline it in black? Because that's the only way each piece will have it's own color. DD drew a rose on an arched window. So if we cut it into chunks, would that mean we're cutting out the rose and the stem? or are we cutting the design apart? If each has it's own color, then the stem may have multiple colors??? Huh?
Day 3 says to cut it out.... so are we cutting out the design (like I mentioned above)? Then it says to oil the picture of the window; but I thought we cut it out; and why would we color the white paper around the window with black then if we cut it out? Are we just cutting out the entire arch but then what background is colored black.
I'm really impaired here.
Pics?

My daughter and I just did this project a week or two ago. When it is done, it is really wonderful. Tracing the picture and the designs in black help them to stand out. Trust me, it seems strange until the very last step... when it all becomes beautiful. You put in pencil lines to divide the picture up the way stained glass is divided up... but you don't cut anything. You just want to add the illusion of a division in there with pencil, then adding the black crayon and the different colors. Pencil is used lightly so that you can erase and change things if you want before you add crayon. Be bold in your colors as that works best! I would leave your main drawing as one piece if you want. Maybe circle it, and then divide up the sections around the main drawing. My dd had an angel in the middle. We circled it and then divided up the outside. When you cut out the picture, cut out the window as a whole. You don't want white showing unless it is part of the picture (Like clouds, and even then we used white crayon). Adding the oil brings your picture to life. When it dries and is hung in a window, it truly is beautiful! I tried to upload a picture, but was having trouble. Hopefully, someone else will be able to show more.

Mmmm... I think I'll do what I think should be done instead of reading it.
I didn't get the cutting portion and I don't understand if the pencil marks to divide it up should be in black as well as the picture itself. Or is it not the picture outlined in black, but only the divisions?
