Read alouds and DITHOR books

Post by Daph » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:07 pm

I'm a little confused about this. I thought the books in the book list were for DITHOR. Now, I'm seeing that there are read aloud times in the daily schedule. Does this mean that I read a Biography and she reads a separate one on her own, every day with DITHOR? Two Biographies will be learned at the same time? And then two Fictions, etc, etc.? Do I have that right?

Yes there are storytime books from the various genres for Beyond, and Bigger. If you are doing DITHR you need separate books for your child to read. They won't always line up that depends when you start DITHR, and what order you choose to have your child read them in. My ds is in unit 32 of Beyond, and we start DITHR 2 last week, so when we start Bigger in July he will already be partly into DITHR level 2.

Ok. I think I may need to start DITHOR with a different genre, then. I know I would get confused reading two different Biographies at once. So now I need to plan a new set of each. Hmm...I wasn't expecting that, but that's ok. We're all excited about Story Time.

The book suggestions in the book store can be used for either DITHOR or Storytime, can't they? Actually, never mind. LOL I'm very distracted this evening.

Hi Daph! Ok let me see if I can make this clearer for you. It can be a bit confusing until you understand how the guides work :D Each guide has history books, science books, read alouds (storytime) and some have extension books for older children using the same guide as a younger sibling. Now the read alouds do follow genre's like DITHOR but you DO NOT have to do the same genre in DITHOR as the read aloud. For DITHOR you and your children can pick any genre to do. So I personally would just pick a different genre to start with (as you mentioned above :D)

Many people also choose to only do half the genre's for DITHOR each year and do the rest of the genre's the following year.

I do hope that helps
