Did I make a mistake?? RtR extension ??

Post by 4Hispraise » Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:00 pm

I am contemplating my coming year. I ordered RtR for ds 11 with extensions. He will be 12 and in 7th grade next year. I guess I chose to order the extension pack because he is going into 7th grade and is on the upper end of the guide. So, now I am wondering if I should be using them with him?? I received them a few weeks ago & am looking at them...

He is completing CtC this year, easily, I might add. We started with the extensions, but I determined it was too much for him. So, I had to drop the extension pack. Then, as we got deeper into the school year, he seemed to need more. Now he is reading about every other book in the extension pack and completing assignments because the full extension schedule still seemed like too much, but the regular schedule did not seem challenging enough. He is loving everything and doing really well. So...any thoughts?? Or am I just second guessing myself for nothing? ARGH!

Thanks!!

Well, you didn't make a mistake either way, as those books are just incredible to own! (I plan on getting them myself eventually, just for my ds to read on his own. ) So, not a mistake, but something to consider - extensions are to be added if more is needed. I guess I'd begin RTR without them, see if ds is needing more, and if he is, add them. I would then consider if just the extra extension reading was enough "more", or if the additional extension follow-up assignments should be added too. Sometimes "more" is not better... it's just more. We are in the final month of RTR, and I would say it is important to get the very most out of the core of it, to have dc give their utmost to the daily work first. And then, if more is needed, I'd add the extensions. :D HTH!

Thanks! I agree about the great books! No regrets in purchasing them, but as I was contemplating the schedule, I began to wonder if I was doing what is best for ds by making him keep up with the extension schedule. I will begin without them and go from there. I almost can't wait to start the books look so good!! :-)
