I just answered some of my own questions by reading the Appendix for Bigger

.
Does anyone use Extensions with a younger student who is a voracious reader? I am previewing the material and I think that my DS8 would enjoy some of it. He LOVES to read and is particularly interested in history & science. He'll be 8.5 when he begins Bigger next month.
Thanks!

Yes! Ive given extension books for free reading time. Told DD how many units we'd be using it for and fold her to read it at her leisure. No schedule. No limits. Take a day or a week or whatever. Just finish it before we moved out of the units it's used for. Usually, she chose to read it over a couple of days. A little at a time several times a day. Super reader here too

DD is doing Preparing but is only 10yo so using the extensions were not essential. However, she is a voracious reader so I am having her follow the extensions schedule somewhat, and she is reading those more for leisure. I will do the same for her for CTC. She won't do all of the extensions, but I will buy the Cat of Bubastes and the other audio CD (can't think of the title) and she will read many of the extension books too. I just won't feel like I have to have her do all of them because of her age.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

We are using the extension books this year for my dd8. She follows the schedule in the appendix, but doesn't narrate to me or anything, so it is more like free reading. Some of those extension books have been her favorites this year

(Pedro's Journal, Pocahontas and the Strangers and Once on this Island). She is not really a voracious reader, but an extremely strong reader, and it has worked out very well to add them in.
