Learned a lot in a few days

Post by blessedmomof4 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 5:01 pm

This week, I learned that my 13-year-old reads and writes slowly, and needs work on following written directions. No wonder the online school wasn't working for her! I learned CTC or RtR will be a better pick for the fall than Rev. to Rev. because of this. I learned that she needs lots of hugs and smiles. I learned that my two younger girls, who have so often been at odds in their temperaments and personalities, can work together successfully in the right environment. I learned that my oldest girl, though she does great working independently, missed the days of spending mornings together, so she came up with the idea of us all getting up a little earlier so we could have breakfast together and talk. Twice she even participated during Bible study. I learned that my youngest does not try to get attention from me in negative ways if I listen carefully when she is talking to me. I learned that we can get the school day done without rushing, yet still have time for deep talks and fun times. I learned that I would never again trade all this for anything. I learned that I am truly called to stay at home and teach my children.
I feel like it is miraculous how the atmosphere in our home has changed in just a few days. I know that I owe thanks to the Lord and Carrie, for the part HOD is playing in our family, because HOD is written with God and His Word woven throughout, and His Word changes hearts.
Now, to figure out how to get chores worked back into the days, to keep hubby happy :) They have been slipping under the stress of things...

That's awesome, Lourdes! Isn't it great how homeschooling also makes us "students of our own students"? We get to know them so much better than if they were away at school all day, and we can gear their education to their individual needs. :)

I am so glad you are getting things figured out. God is good! As you get a routine flowing you will figure out where to put chores. :)

What a blessing, I rejoice with you! :D My prayer is that the Lord will keep this peace in your family and that He will show you how to add chores back into the schedule and help you maintain the home so your husband is happy. PTL for His goodness. I am so blessed that HOD is written with God on the forefront and with the busy hsing Mom in mind! :D When we seek Him, we find that He is faithful to us. When we fall, He picks us up, when we go to Him with a humble heart! May the Lord meet you and guide you as you press into Him. New grace for each day is to be gotten at the throne so approach him boldly every day!!! :D
Success with the planning :D

I'm so happy for you and your children. Just rejoicing in God's goodness to you! :D

As far as chores, set the timer for 15 minutes and everybody work together. Start small. You'll get a lot done in those 15 min. :D

Lourdes,

It is amazing what you can learn in a few days, isn't it! :D I often find this is true myself. How wonderful that your kiddos have a caring mom like you to pay attention to them and strive to really find the best fit for them. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Taking time to reflect in the hustle and bustle of the days and the weeks and the months and the years - is tough to do. Yet you have done just that - wise woman! We can miss God's goodness otherwise, and we can also miss really knowing our dc. You gained so much perspective here by just taking time to type out this post - these are excellent thoughts that can help the rest of us take stock of things too. Thank you for sharing here, as this "thinking out loud" kind of talk can help make a positive impact on not only your life, but in the life of many others reading this post! I am praising God with you for showing you this wisdom, and thanking Him as so much of it is worth rejoicing! :D

In Christ,

Julie and Lisa, thank you for the encouraging words! Thanks to everyone as well :) Today my sweet 13 year old did something I haven't seen her do since she was 9-she was hanging upside-down from the sofa while reading a book
