Do the guides work best with the school year?

Post by mercymom » Sun Feb 13, 2011 7:25 pm

We are beginning Little Hearts soon (I keep checking the tracking and my books are in my state! Yippee!). I was just reading where someone else mentioned they read the story of St Valentine, not sure if that was in the curriculum or something they did on their own, but it made me wonder. Are the guides best done according to the school year, as far as experiments, outside activities, etc. Will we be missing the full benefit of some seasonal things by starting right now? Or are there things I should look ahead and do early depending on the time of year or something? Thanks!

Doesn't matter at all! You can start anytime of the year and it won't mess up anything whatsoever :) Have fun!!!

Hi there,

we are in Australia, as are a number of other families who do HOD, and we have not found any negatives of doing it here, and our school year starts in January and our seasons are opposite to yours! Start any time and enjoy!

Christy,
I'm the one who mentioned St. Valentine. That was coincidence that it fell this close to Valentines Day. We started the beginning of August, so we should be a good deal farther than we are, but we took more days off in Nov/Dec than I had planned. It doesn't matter when you start. It's all good anytime. :D Yes, the story of St. Valentine is in the history book for LHFHG. :)

thanks for the tip on the story of St. Valentine. I am going to look it up and read about the history of that to them. Anyone know any good links on the net? We use Beyond, so we don't have the other book.

We have honestly never started a guide at the beginning of a school year and they've all been perfect!! We're on our 3rd and 4th guides now. (Using one with my oldest, and one with my two youngest.) Have fun! :D
