The basics need work
The basics need work
I'll begin by saying since using HOD my son's basic skills have really improved, but this year our goal was to achieve a level of excellence in these areas. We're not there. He needs work across the board - math, grammar, cursive, writing creatively, dication. I'm wondering what would be the best option - to set aside or slow down the left side of the guide to focus MORE on the right side or ....

Which ds?
That may make a difference in advice given. Also, is it the actual physical part of writing that's difficult? Or more the thinking behind it? One last question - what's his age and what levels of things is he doing? Thanks!

Re: The basics need work
Florence what about maybe going 4 days a week with HOD and one day a week to work on skills that need work. I have done this with my kids and find it works pretty well. So just a thought.

I love this idea! This would work without ds needing to slow down the things that are going well at the pace he's doing them already. Thanks for sharing this, water2wine, I'm putting this idea in my back pocket in case I need it sometime too.water2wine wrote:Florence what about maybe going 4 days a week with HOD and one day a week to work on skills that need work. Re: The basics need work
HI all,
The ds in question is my 13 yo. He hasn't really hit a stride of excellence in any of his basic subjects - cursive, math, grammar and composition. I'm pondering a math tutor for him because he is strong in math and should be nailing the concepts then I could focus more on the solidifying the grammar and composition skills. He has put forth incredible effort in the cursive this year. Perhaps, I just need to make a note to give him more guidance on this... Don't know ...still praying/thinking this through.
