DITHOR??

I just got the DITHOR TM, and the level 2/3 student book, and am trying to figure out how it works for next year. My ds is 7.5, and 2nd grade right now. He is doing the emergent reader books, and will be starting Tornado next week. Would the level 2 books be good to follow the emergent readers or the level 3 books. He will be starting DITHOR in grade 3 along with Bigger Hearts. I was thinking I would just get the books recommended on this site, because he is really enjoying the emergent reader list. Also how important is the book project book?

How exciting you are going to be starting DITHOR! When we finished the ERS, we just went right into DITHOR 2/3 along with the Level 2 books. My ds could have probably read the Level 3 books, but I purposely chose the Level 2 books, so he could focus on growing into the written portion and skills focus parts of DITHOR. I'm so glad I did, for it made the transition go so smoothly, and it gave him confidence. The Level 2 book range from 3. 0 to 4.1 reading levels (third grade to fourth grade first month), so, yes, I agree that going into Level 2 books with your dd for third grade would be a great follow-up to the ERS.

As far as the Book Projects book, it is optional, but it is very inexpensive, part of the DITHOR package HOD sells (so you practically get it for free), and it is FUN! Here's a past post about that:

I'd recommend getting it, as it has given my dc hours of fun and meaningful follow-ups to wrapping up a genre study, but it is totally up to you.

Thanks Julie! Your replies are always so positive and encouraging . I looked over the level 2, and the level 3 book packs, and the level 2 ones look too fun to miss. I think we may start the level two ones this spring when he is done with the ER's, and then just move into the level 3 whenever we finish.
