Any favorite versions for a child's 1st "real" Bible?
Any favorite versions for a child's 1st "real" Bible?
I mean child versions - we tend to read the NASB around here, but I want something with shorter sentences, vocabulary for a 2nd-grade-level reader. Any favorites out there?

I can not help with a Children's Bible, but we also use the NASB and I did go ahead and buy my ds one when he finished reading the 2 Emergent Reader Bibles Carrie recommended (he was going into in 1st grade and was 6 years old) and have been amazed at how well he grew into reading his adult Bible. He reads right along with hubby and I during family devotions and has adjusted well to the long sentences with difficult to pronounce words. I did get the Large Print, Words of Christ in Red with Visual Reference System, NASB for him. So you may be surprised at how well you dc does getting a real Bible...
Either way, how exciting for your dc to get their first "real bible".

The NIrV is good.
My oldest went straight to the NIV, but my 7 yo dd that has taken a little longer in reading appreciates this version.

My 7 year old reads right out of his own NKJV. He also has this Bible that he reads out of on his own during quite Bible time.

Definitely check out the International Childrens Bible translation. It has been a real blessing to our children and we find it a very accurate translation. It is great for kids to read on their own because it is quite literal (for example "he died" instead of "he slept with his fathers".)

The Life Application NLT is our fave for kids. It's written in a vocab they can understand and has great commentary. Our oldest had the "Kid's" version. They now make a Guys or Girls one.

We got DS the NIrV Adventure Bible and he loves it. He has picked it up to read on his own and loves the extras in it. If you scroll down on the page, you'll see other cover options you can get also if you want something nicer.

We buy one of these for our kids when they begin to read. Print is easy to read and pictures are throughout on their own pages, but nothing distracts from the text on the page. They are normal "Bible" pages with print only.

NIrV Adventure Bible is a hit here. My DS loves it. He can understand it and doesn't become frustrated when he comes to difficult words.

Thanks, everyone - there are really a lot of great choices out there! Maybe we'll try out some more as the dds grow up We forgot that we bought the NIRV Discoverer's Bible for Early Readers for him last year on sale, and it was up on a high shelf It has 12pt font and is very easy for him to read.
We also ordered the International Children's Bible Big Red Bible (pb, only $6.99 at CBD!) for taking to church etc.
It made me tear up when he hugged me and said "Thank you! I love this Bible so much!". We found him reading to his sister later...
